Alec Baldwin to quit acting in 2012

"I don't have any interest in acting anymore," Baldwin, 51, told "Men's Journal" in an interview for its December issue.

"I consider my entire movie career a complete failure," he told Men's Journal. "The goal of movie-making is to star in a film where your performance drives the film, and the film is either a soaring critical or commercial success, and I never had that."


I find it ironic Baldwin is going to quit acting because he quit being a good father years ago (rimshot).

Even if he quits acting, I hope he would still have time for SNL and show up on the Real Time with Bill Maher panel.

He helped make The Departed, I don't know what he's talking about.

But I won't miss him dearly.

His very small part in Glengarry Glen Ross was huge. The Hunt for Red October? Come on.

I think he's just fishing for compliments. I'd miss him definitely, I really like him as an actor.

So he plans to quit after his 30 Rock contract is up. Interesting that he is co hosting the 2010 Academy awards with Steve Martin.

I think the 2 roles that Alec had in the departed and glengary were his 2 best. It probably would have gotten stale after awhile, but it'd be interesting to see if he was given more of a chance to play that sort of powerful, controlling, intimidating figure. Maybe he has and I just missed it, can't really say I know an awful lot about his resume, but I did enjoy him in those 2 roles, and in 30 rock.

He was great in The Departed and helped make that film great. He is dynamite on 30 Rock, if he actually sticks to this it will be sad to see him go I like his acting.

I am really looking forward to him and Martin hosting the Oscars this year.

Seriously, I love you Tina Fey, but you can't carry that show without Baldwin. He elevates the show to a whole other level.

I'll enjoy the hell out of these last two years, I suppose.

I don't care if this man is a giant a'hole offscreen, he's a comedic genius!
