Comcast would be nuts do that. What will happen to those who watch NBC through their local affiliate? the NFL sure as hell would have something to say as it would lock out 230 affiliates from watching their SNF package.

Although in a way selling off the affiliates might do something interesting. It would give a network like the CW an opportunity to become a major player in the broadcasting world by buying up all those affiliates. Needless to say it's going to be a very interesting 12 months.

Comcast doesn't want to own the NBC affiliates as most of them don't make much money. The affiliate is basically just the local broadcasting station, tower, and the news team. Comcast has no interest in those, they do have interest in all the programming that they would still own. They would then still sell the programming to whoever then owned the station. Let someone else take on all the cost to broadcast it and just collect the check for the programming.

For the NFL, yes they will have their say. The NFL though will only care if Comcast tries to affect the price for the local affiliates that they don't own or what they charge Directv, Dish, or other cable companies to have access to the local stations.

Comcast has just shown that they are willing to do anything to make sure this gets approval. It's political though, so you will have to search for it yourself.

If Comcast does sell these 10 affiliates, they won't die or change affiliations, they are all in major metropolitan areas someone will be quick to jump on these.
