Loving this marathon. Really wish my cable provider would join the FX Now group as I won't get to watch them on demand later. DVRing my favorites, but I keep forgetting which ones I've recorded in which room. I have several episodes on both DVRs, but if there is any show that I wouldn't mind this happening, it's the Simpsons.

Gun Shop Owner: Woah, careful there, Annie Oakley.
Homer: I don't have to be careful, I got a gun.
Gun Shop Owner: Well, you'll probably want the accessory kit. Holster...
          Homer: Oh, yeah.
          Gun Shop Owner: Bandoleer.
          Homer: Baby.
          Gun Shop Owner: Silencer.
          Homer: Mmm-hmm.
          Gun Shop Owner: Loudener.
          Homer: [drooling noise]
          Gun Shop Owner: Speed-cocker.
Homer: Ooh, I like the sound of that.
Gun Shop Owner: And this is for shooting down police helicopters.
Homer: Oh, I don't need anything like that...yet. Just give me my gun.
Gun Shop Owner: Sorry, the law requires a five day waiting period. We've
got to run a background check.
Homer: Five days? But I'm mad now! I'd kill you if I had my gun!
Gun Shop Owner: Yeah, well, you don't.

This has been a blessing thus far. Sad that we're going to start heading away from the prime though. Gah. On the bright side, there are a ton of episodes I haven't seen so I can catch a few.

I'm loving the uncut versions! I've seen every episode before, but now all of a sudden I'm seeing things I NEVER saw before!!

Yeah, I think we have about 2 days until it starts going down hill.

I'd pin the decline right around 2005 or 2006.

It's been awesome watching all these episodes again, though!

Eh, I would say the decline already started. There's still good episodes, but there are way more bad ones beginning to pop up right around seasons 10-15.

There there's the next even steeper decline that mention right around season 16/17-present. That's when there's about 1 good/above average episode for every 3 average/slightly below average ones and 6 bad ones. At that point I'm probably tapping out unless there's nothing on.

I am watching the movie on Friday though. I've been meaning to watch it again and it's the perfect opportunity.

The one negative effect of this marathon is noticing the decline in quality as it happens though.

I disagree. Sure, there was a noticeable decline in quality. And sure, the show right now is not as good as it was during the golden years. But it's also in season 25. And, in my opinion, still churning out great episodes, which is remarkable for a show that has been on this long. I wouldn't call the last few seasons classic, but they've definitely been very good, with most episodes quite funny, and a few that I would consider classic. The show has definitely rebounded from its weakest stretch, and I challenge anybody to watch last season's Sideshow Bob episode and not laugh a ton. In particular, these two exchanges:

Homer: (reading Tweeter's Digest) I like how they cut them down from 140 characters to a more manageable 20 characters.
Marge: (worrying about her next teen abstinence seminar) Oh, another seminar tomorrow. I just wish I could connect with those teenagers, since it seems like we'll never have any.
Homer: Oh, Marge, teens can't control their urges. It's why there's never been a teenage president.
Marge: Are you saying I'm wasting my time?
                      Homer: No. I'm saying you're wasting everyone's time. But it's a church thing, so that's a given.

                      AND

Lou: Uh, Chief, we got a report of a disturbance at the Met.
Chief Wiggum: We got bigger problems, Lou. Horny teens who should be out having bad sex, but instead somebody made them take an abstinence pledge.
Lenny: I don't get it. There are taboos about premarital sex in the Middle East, and you don't see those people getting all violent.

Homer looks out a window at Bart playing baseball: "Oh, I'm missing Bart's childhood. He won't be 10 forever."

HAHA the wife has been recording them off and on for a couple days now... I think we have like 50 some-odd episodes on the DVR.

I'm like "when do you plan on watching these?" *shrugs at me*
