I bought my tv from them. Got some surprise gift cards so.......onkyo

Question though. Is the sub powered by seperate connector, so I could upgrade in future to more powerful? Am I right when I say this isnt really a HTIB, its an onkyo receiver that just comes with onkyo speakers? I think that mmakes sense. (on phone if formatting is weird)

Yes. Your description is pretty accurate. First choice should always be a receiver over a DVD player. You can upgrade subs with no problems--nothing else needed.

Gotcha now. I never paid attention to it. I never thought I would need to upgrade. I got a 5 disc dvd player (with upscaler) and I just hooked everything up through it. DirecTV, PS3, PC. It sounds great.
I guess the receiver would have been better for a kick *** sound system. But my ish shakes the floor and the surround sound on the movies and blu rays are unbelievable.

Dumb question. I thought i remember seeing the Onkyo was only 640 watts, while other systems were 1000. What does wattage matter?

When it comes to audio specs Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer list specs that actually mean something.

Sony, LG, Samsung, Panasonic for the most part use them simply for marketing and thus are misleading.

In theory, it's the loudest a system can go. I can tell you, those systems are not putting out 1000 watts of sound. Those numbers are bogus. There is no way a DVD player is powering a subwoofer and driving 5 speakers to 1000W. High end receivers only put out 90-130W per channel x 5 (or 7)

                  Look at this almost $900 receiver-- 525W over 5 channels (105W) http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR2310C...1786726&sr=1-1

Nice pick-up. Don't forget to go to www.monoprice.com for your HDMI and optical cables. 6ft. HDMI cables are on sale for $2 and optical cables are $3 ....get everything you need in one shot b/c shipping is like $5-6.

Coming from Cali to SC (my place) it would have been $16 shipped for 3 HDMI and 3 optical cables...

I have that same onkyo setup that GC recommended in my room and its more than awesome for the bedroom. I play blurays, xbox and tv.

I was just watching band of brothers in my room and that was an experience.

I know some that use it as a living room set and it works fine.

I had it ordered, and had severe buyers remorse so I cancelled it. Not sure why, just didn't feel right. Then I got inspiration to sell my 360 and buy a ps3!

Says the system will be here Wednesday.. How should I run the cables? I have my DirectTV, 360, and PS3 all hooked up by HDMI cables to the TV right now.

Would it be better just to run an optical cable from the TV to the reciever, or what would be better? I read somewhere that there's only 1 optical input on the reciever, and then RCA's for the rest.
