    This my newest toy.

Got a 42"Dynex 1080p from my Dad for Christmas. We also got a Wii for Joel and about 8 games. Really great Christmas from a tech point of view! My wife hates the new monitor, but I'm loving it!

Yeah, he did! Had my 23" Samsung and had mentioned to my mom I wanted to save up for a 32". My parents house burned down 9 months ago and while they were living in the apartment waiting for their new house to be built he had bought the Dynex in May. Well, he went out and bought a few more TV's with the insurance money and this one became expendable. He now has a 32" LG, a 47" LG and a 73" Mitsubishi (all 1080p and 120hz.). Don't think he will miss this one much. To me it's the best re-gift of all! I can run Sony Vegas Pro and Sound Forge and preview all my vid clips of Fifa on the same screen. And with the Quad Core and my 8 gig of Ram, it's got the horsepower to do it all. Only slight bummer is I had to take the color depth down to 16 bit. The videocard I'm stuck with on this HP can't keep up the 32 bit and do everything. Media Center started chopping up real bad, even running by itself. 16 bit fixed it. Darn 350 watt PSU!

I can't wait until my folks get everything settled in the new house. I'm gonna put up some pics and vids of that! It's hooked up! All the old stuff they never even used anymore got turned into a dream house and furnishings! I'm so happy for them! Their biggest misfortune has turned out to be a huge blessing! My wife and I have already volunteered to house sit whenever they want! LOL! I'll just lock this one up and move in over there! LOL!

Glad it turn out well. My friends parents house got burnt down. I think it wasn't the whole house. It a very big house. But I remember the insurance gave them $10,000 a month to rent. That is when I realize my friends parents have a lot of money.

My parents got roughly 450,000 between house and possessions. You never really realize how much stuff you accrue over a lifetime. And a lot of the stuff that burned was actually pretty nice, too. Not to mention all the stuff that was pretty much priceless. My Dad was Air Force for 28 years and we gathered a lot of stuff from around the globe. That stuff couldn't be replaced, so the insurance gave them a pretty penny for it. The wiring in the old house just gave way one day and poof! But it's turned out pretty good. Like the insurance company said, we won't make you rich, but we'll try and make you whole. Just thankful that me dad has always been a big believer in maxing his insurance coverage. I bumped my stuff up after that!

Update: I don't know why I do this, but I decided to go for the the full 300Mbps setup. I ordered a Wireless-N Linksys Gaming adapter, 2 Linksys USB Dual-band Network adapters and a Netgear RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N router. My HP already has Wireless-N built in, but it only will push about 135Mbps. Everything else is 54-100. Hoping to get the entire home network up to around 270 with going to the 5.0 band. RangeMax had mixed reviews and isn't true Dual-Band, it does one channel of 2.4 and one of 5.0 which run at the same time, but it does 5.0 which will help with a lot of the interference from the router farm that exists in my neighborhood. Just wished I could afford the top of the line Linksys which does true dual 5.0. That'll be when the price comes down or I can find a refurb.... At least everything else will be 5.0 Dual-band capable! We'll see next week.

Just found out that my HP wireless card they installed is only rated for 135mbps. That's a little lame. I'm gonna plug up the Linksys and see if that gets me up to 270. Ordered a PCMCIA Dual band card for Deb's laptop (afraid of getting the USB one snapped off), so I've got an extra USB adapter. Did an InSSIDer scan and found out that nobody in my whole neighborhood is running 5.0 band. Maybe I'll get to have it all to myself!

Well, so far so good. Right now both the laptop and my HP are running at 135mbps. Both streaming vid. My old Athlon which sits right under the router with the Linksys wireless n is flying along at 270 and has shot up to 300 when no other stuff is going on. Still gotta hook up the adapter for the 360. I've got one more dual band USB and the Netgear Router coming. Can't wait until I can get totally 5.0 and lose the interference from my neighbors. Will only have the Wii on 2.4 to deal with. But I think I've found a channel that holds up pretty stable, even with the Belkin I'm using now. I so love the techie toys!

Happened to get the last USB adapter from UPS this afternoon. Every computer now is 270mb throughput. Yay! Gaming adapter works great. Had one disconnect, but I think that's because I had it sitting on top of the 360 and both the controller and the adapter are on 2.4 for now. I'm tearing up SpeakEasy, pegging every test on every computer. Just can't wait to get the router and put this network on 5.0ghz. Gonna have to reconfigure the printer to a network one again. Ran out of USB ports on the back. LOL! Man, I love networking....

Well, it is was all good. My network works great, but now my Xbox is DOA, Red-ringed forever. Just sold the Hauppage on Ebay along with the old router. That got me enough to buy a 360 Arcade. Man, just can't win for losing. But, it's all good. I'm still happy that I'm able to get another console. Just out of the video capture game for now.....

Yeah the Linksys dual band gigabit router is awesome. Get a N 360 adapter and you won't have any drops at all. One thing I noticed, a lot of built in laptop cards are kind of weak, especially if you running more then 2 pc's. Just buy some dual band adapters and it is all good.

So how is the Dynex ? I seen it before but didn't know anybody with it. Worth buying you say ?
