I've had discussions with friends about Elvis. They say he was nothing more than a great showman. What with his custom jumpsuits and all.

I disagree. He had a voice that sent chills down my spine. I'm talking about the 70's Elvis, like the vid I posted above, as I was born in 67 and really didn't appreciate him until then.

The day he passed, I remember my mom, who was a big fan, crying all day and listening to his records nonstop.

I used to work with a guy like that, who said Elvis wasn't anything special. He said he was just a showman. He also said something I've not heard before even from most of Elvis' critics. He said Elvis was not nice looking and was, in fact, in his opinion, an ugly man. Never heard anyone say that before about Elvis. I've heard people say he's not that good looking but never heard him called ugly.

I think it's a backlash opinion to be rebellious personally. I understand maybe not thinking he's all that great and saying to each his or her own but to say he can't sing and he's ugly...well that's just silly IMO..
