    Mildred Pierce
    And Then There Were None...
Guess Who' s Coming To Dinner

And one of my all time favorites.......

    Imitation Of Life

These movies came out of Hollywood when writing and stories mattered.

I appreciate a good movie, just as much as the next guy, but I have zero interest in watching anything from that long ago.

          In no order.

          1. No Country for Old Men - Didn't see it on the previous posts, which is sad.

          2. Star Wars

          3. MacGruber - One of the funniest movies I have ever seen and I thought it was going to suck.

          4. Dark Knight

Then all the great comedies like Wedding Crashers, Joe Dirt, Old School, Starsky and Hutch, Anchorman, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall etc.

            That sounds pretty absurd.

That I have zero interest in watching a movie from the 1930s and 1940s ? I'm not saying that some films back then aren't significant, I just don't have any urge to watch anything that old...

It just seems weird to me to draw that line and I don't mean to pinpoint you because I realize there are a lot of people that feel the same. People don't think twice about reading a book written 200 years ago or listening to music 50-60 years old, but for some reason movies are left out.

I often wonder why that's the case. I've heard the old saw that "oh it's because B&W hurts my eyes." Is that REALLY true? I mean Schindler's List was released in the '90s and a lot of people saw that so the whole "it hurts my eyes" thing doesn't jibe with me.

Re: Movies you absolutlely MUST see.

Sometimes we feel anything too old might not have significance in our modern day, but contrary to that, human nature does not change and a great movie can be timeless.

I have four boys and I am beginning to think of movies I want them to see.

                        Goonies
My Bodyguard (not the Costner/Houston one)
                        The Outsiders
                        The Godfather I and II
                        The Pink Panther
                        ET
                        Rocky
                        Red Dawn
                        Castaway

Now for me there is a movie that I refer to that hit me real hard. It never really won anything major that I know of and stars an actor I'm not really crazy about (Nicholas Cage). But it came at a time that literally turned me around. It's Family Man. My wife and I were on the brink of a divorce and the scene at the end of this movie reminded me that I just couldn't walk away. Anyway, it really moved me and reinforced what was the right thing to do for me.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

That was a really good movie. I haven't seen it in a long time so I can't remember the details but since you mention it I might have to take a look at it again.
