Looking at the tiny screen on my phone when home isn't something I enjoy doing long term.

Yeah, i hear ya...I don't really know if I'd use the iPad on my couch currently...i have a laptop that's sufficient and usually just watch movies and tv on my actual tv

You don't quit, do you? Why would I use a laptop if:

A) This has longer battery life.

B) All I need is web browsing.

C) Would not want the heat that comes from a laptop.

MBP has plenty of battery life. mine never gets hot. Especially if you are just doing the stuff the "pad" can do. And if you already have a laptop what is the point of a "pad" unless it's that time of the month!

you would have to hold it up, or have a stand to watch a movie comfortably. Kind of like sitting my laptop down and not holding it when I watch a movie.

I have a 15" uMBP that disagrees with you.

There are millions of people that use a computer simply for internet access. I have all the devices I need. To add a web browsing device that the entire family can use, or my wife can use while I use a laptop seems to be a difficult thing for people to understand.

You can justify using a laptop/netbook/iPod touch/whatever. Great. Others can justify a $500 web viewing device that can do much more.

I hear ya...just can't personally justify the price for what you get and I'm a techie...I got a iPod touch right when it came out...Just think there are more people going "eh" than there were with the iPod or iPhone

$500 web viewing device is what it is. You can buy another laptop for cheaper than that and it will do 100x more and be less expensive.

I don't have a need for this thing either, but how is he "reaching" on his uses?

If all he uses a laptop for is web browsing, then something like this is perfect for him. Photos, videos, web browsing, etc. I definitely see the market for this, it's just not for me.

Honestly, if you're just a web browser type person, this thing would be better and more suitable than a laptop, especially with how light it is, how long the battery lasts, and the lack of heat being emitted.

I suppose if you don't already have a laptop and you only browse the web, you could make a worse choice, especially for the money.

But, honestly, who doesn't use flash nowadays? And, I'd have to try it out, but I can't imagine that full-size virtual keyboard being very user-friendly (the only review I read of the keyboard said it wasn't as responsive or good as the person had hoped, but that was only one review).

I'm just not seeing the market outside of people looking for an e-reader.



Any idea how durable the screen is? Is it the same glass screen as the iPhone? If not, I can see that being a major issue as well.

Indeed. It could be a disaster if it becomes a more expensive iPod Nano in terms of durability. I remember having friends' nanos breaking in their pockets.

Besides Apple's obvious reasons to shun Adobe and flash support, it also makes some sense for AT&T to not want it as well. No flash means less 3G bandwidth used. Their network is already ****ty enough.

Sure, HTML5 is coming around, but Flash will be huge for years still. It's a glaring omission, but one Apple is content with every time someone buys an app from their store.

This reminds me of the Macbook Pro thread where someone made a similar claim.

I'll bite - Provide some examples that provide 100x more, are less expensive and give the same viewing experience of the web.

As an aside, I wonder if Amazon will update their Kindle app to take advantage of this. I saw two people on the subway today reading off their iPhone/iPod and a Kindle owner. I'm sure they wouldn't want to provide a better viewing experience for a device that will seemingly cannibalize their own market...
