Movies that ingest FEAR into you.

I read a list today of the 20 most creepy moments on television and it got me and my friend thinking.

Most good movies can give me a nice scare, or make me cringe at a few scenes, but I can't actually think of a movie that has actually made me fear (minus when i was a little kid and the scene from t2 when the nuke goes off terrified me thinking that could happen in real life, which some day it could i guess).

Now what I'm looking for is a movie(s) or show episode that can possibly do one of if not all of the following

    1. doesnt necessarily have to scare me but puts fear into me
    2. has me on the absolute edge of my seat about to have a heart attack
    3. gets stuck in my damn head and cant shake the thought of it (not gross or gory stuff, just either the story or a character, or a situation).

Avoid movies that are gory such as hostel, I'm not looking to puke.

What are some of your guys recommendations and/or stories about certain episodes or movies that just "got" to you, affected you really deeply in one way or another?

The Ring was the only movie to ever do this to me. Call me whatever you want or say whatever you want about it, but I went into it knowing nothing except there being a "tape that kills you seven days after you watch it." Knowing nothing about the mystery and being only 15 years old, it scared the living crap out of me and I lost sleep over it.

No other movie has ever done that to me, and I doubt that any other movie ever will. And yes, I've seen most of the classic horror movies people are going to name in this thread. No such scare effect quite like The Ring IMO (as well as the Japanese original, which I've also seen).

I would also recommend Paranormal Activity, but it didn't quite scare me like I know that it can scare others. Simply shut off anything you've ever heard about the movie as well as the hype surrounding it, and take it exactly for what it is. You should be on the edge of your seat every time darkness falls.

If you want to watch on okay YouTube bit that ingested a bit of fear into me, watch the various Marble Hornets entries these guys put online. It involves captured footage of the ever so mysterious "Slender Man" and the like. It's pretty creepy and utilizes the handheld cam style.

Opinions will vary widely on this, but Paranormal Activity met all 3 of those criteria for me, personally. Especially 2 and 3.

I'm with Blzer, The Ring is the only one I can think of that really freaked me out. Paranormal Activity really didn't, I watch Paranormal State so it just seems really exaggerated to me. The Ring was done really well I found, even the parts that weren't meant to be scary just had this eeriness to them that make you feel like you could jump at any moment, that's how you know it's a good horror.

The ring was solid back in the day for a good scare, but never fear for me.
Same with Paranormal Activity for me, enjoyed the crap out of it, gave a few nice scares, probably one of the best that I can remember, but I never felt fear, it did do a solid job of suspense as well.

Note that the movie doesn't have to be a scary movie, it can be a drama, thriller, mystery, war, ect.

Keep them coming though, I love hearing all the stories associated with the various movies.

I think you mean instill, not ingest.

The Descent scared me because I'd been stuck in a cave before.

Blair Witch Project freaked me out when I was a little kid.

My example of the last movie that I guess you could say that affected me more than others was the movie "An American Crime" it never really made me fear or scared me in any way, but the movie did an amazing job at making you absolutely HATE down in your gut some of the characters, the movie pissed me off more than anything though. Well acted, stuck with me for a few days.

Then in that case, I recommend The Mist. For greater effect, watch it in black and white.

Exorcism of Emily Rose, that is one scary mother, I can't even look at that chick in any other movie or TV show without getting the chills, haha.

I already know about the ending to The Mist, a friend told me, and yea I bet that one would definitely stick with you a few days for sure. Emily Rose was also a solid flick, had some nice suspense moments.

I tend to get a little more shaken by movies that could actually happen. Movies like The Stranger's or When a Stranger Call's (original) maybe even The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original). It's something about the way those older movie where shot that just makes them more suspenseful. Plus, those movies are all based on Actual Events (allegedly).

However, I think another one that comes to my mind from my childhood is Pet Sematary. Not because of the zombie animals but, because of the guy who was hit by the bus and because of the wifes sister. That chick was just freaky.

That's unfortunate, I always try and make sure an ending doesn't get spoiled for me. In either case, I still think you should watch it. There are two or three characters in particular that you are guaranteed to emotionally despise.

I agree. I went to the movie theater with several friends after sharing a glorious blunt together. All I knew was that we were seeing this movie. Didn't know anything about it. Definitely freaked me out a bit.
