They could sing a song telling us to give money, or they could dig into their own pockets for the millions and millions we've already given them and they could pretty much rebuild the entire country if they wanted to. So how about they do that, instead of singing a song about how I should be giving more money.

I do, however, agree that this is a pretty sad attempt.
The "auto-tune" section of Lil Wayne, Akon, and T-Payne was comical.
And I thought there was a little too much Michael Jackson going on. I realize he helped write the song, but what is this: a song to unite the world over the crisis in Haiti or another Michael Jackson memorial?
And I like Wyclef but wow he sounded atrocious.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

The auto-tune and free style bits were bad but again not as bad as Wyclef. The man sounds like he's straining his voice. Kinda sounds like a cat trying to sing IMO.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: We are the world 2010...
It could be a decent remake if they just let the people who can actually sing, sing the song. No Striesand, no Lil Wayne, Akon, T-Pain or Wyclef. Also I thought Celine Dion's part was awful. I could do without the rap parts, but I understand they were trying to modernize it a little and that is not what made it awful. They had so many really talented vocalists there that this should've been 100x better than it was. I expect more from Lionel and Quincy.PSN: Koolie_G

They are obviously talented and I'm mostly disturbed by the artists chosen to perform the song."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: We are the world 2010...
The song sucked (just like every "save the world" supergroup song including the original), but if you believe in this type of stuff, they picked the correct people.
Yes, Lil Wayne, Kanye, Wyclef, and the autotune bunch may not be the best singers, but that's not the point. Wyclef is probably the celebrity most closely associated with the issue and Kanye and Lil Wayne are probably the two most popular male artists to people under 30.
"Singers" wise, how many popular singers did they leave out? Alecia Keys, Bono, Vedder, and whoever Kings of Leon's frontman is are about all I can think of off the top of my head and I'd assume all were asked. I guess Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Hootie, and Taylor Swift would apply, but people would complain about them too (and I'd guess all but Hootie were asked).
The point isn't to put out a hot record since that isn't happening in today's world. The point is to appeal to people with artists they like and for that reason, they did a pretty good job.
Let's be honest the only good supergroup performance ever has been "I'm ****ing Ben Affleck."Last edited by Cebby; 02-13-2010, 09:18 PM.Comment

Re: We are the world 2010...
I don't care to listen to it. There's only one "We Are the World" and I won't accept a bunch of talentless hacks stealing a song that brought together a real collection of musical talent.
Why doesn't this generation just come up with their own idea if they want to be remembered?
