If anyone wants it, I may or may not have a link to a website that has the BBC version up, split up into episodes.

And yes, I'm being as "vague" as possible because, technically, I'm not allowed to talk about things like that on this site. However, since there are so many of you that seem adamant about only watching the BBC version (which, I must say, is 100 times better from the ones I've watched so far)...I'm doing a public service. PM me if you want. (And, while it's not Blu-Ray, the episodes are all in 720p HD).

LOL. I cant say much because I like my job. With that said, please know that most things done at television networks are tested with focus groups before its aired. If it does horrible with focus groups it probably wont make it to the airwaves. The fact that Oprah is still the narrator shows that some people actually like her narration.

No one said focus groups have to have taste.

And yeah, I totally eat my words on Oprah possibly not being bad... it was tough for me to watch after having seen 4-5 of the UK episodes. "Echo-system" is the worst thing ever, but her overall tone of voice and the kindergarten way she pronounced some things just makes it sound really off.

Plus you know that she has no idea about 90% of what she's talking about, so her voice lacks credibility... when Attenborough is talking about the mating habits of birds, you know he's talking from experience, as we've been watching that creepy old bugger hide in bushes while birds do it for about 40 years now.

LOL. I'm not making that argument. Just that it wasnt a random choice when it came to Oprah. Its well known that American TV audiences prefer American narrators. So Attenborough wouldnt have worked either.

And if you fill your focus groups with Oprah worshiping women, you get your expected outcome. I know they did it to draw in all of Oprah's audience, but it might backfire and turn off the rest of their audience.

That isnt how focus groups work. That actually would defeat the purpose of a focus group by filling it with people who have a clear preference. Oprah is a huge name but its not a reason why people would watch Life. She's a narrator. She isnt seen in the program.

It's interesting to see the way they re-ordered a lot of the footage from the UK version.

I decided to give up after the first two episodes and wait for the Blu-ray release. It's a mere 8 weeks away and I have plenty of other stuff to keep me busy in the meantime. I absolutely loathe and detest Oprah and even if the narration wasn't as bad as it was I just can't stomach her voice any more than I have to.

Yeah, she definitely wasn't as bad this week.

DA still kills it, and I like the extra "behind the scenes" footage that the BBC versions seem to have.

So true though. My gf and I actually started rewatching Planet Earth on bluray last night while we wait for the BBC release of this.

I wish I could have David Attenborough tell me bedtime stories every night, lol. I'd sleep like a baby.
