She pronounced ecosystem "echo system"

It's not so much her pronunciations, her voice just doesn't suit documentaries like these. It's something about her voice that I can't take seriously and it cheapens the experience.

For me too.
In the "Mammals" serious were those the "Detroit Lions" who submitted to the hyenas? They even climbed up on a tree to avoid battle.

Is it me, or does anyone else shudder when they hear Oprah, during the Humpback Whale segment say ".. Not surpisingly, it's all about SEX." With double-emphasis on it.

Not shudder, just annoyed. They picked her to narrate based on her obvious popularity (which escapes me), but her voice just doesn't do it. A John Chancellor she ain't!

They could've chosen James Earl Jones instead of Oprah

She's just not the voice for this kind of a film

Great voice, but doesn't Freeman narrate everything? Martin Sheen would have been good.

I'm leaning towards not watching this on Discovery anymore.

The UK version is much, much better. I actually thought Oprah rebounded at first but the nails on the chalkboard made its return last night.

And yeah, I'm totally with you Pared... seemed better last week but it was definitely back to the terrible last night. I've realized what really annoys me... it's the unnaturally low voice she does when she gives emphasis to things (like the "it's all about SEX" line ha). It makes it sound like she's reading to a Kindergarten class or something (i.e. "And Goldilocks ate the second bowl and it was TOO HOT").

Thats exactly what it is, her voice is better for school children rather than this kind of a scene and audience
