Listening to the back and forth ads on 660, 880 and 1010 are ridiculous with this thing. Plus the Food Network or whatever a little while back.

I saw that commercial last night and I could NOT believe they aired that commercial. That's like starting a fight with a punch to the groin.

And from what I read Cablevision's more in the wrong...they're making it sound like they're a complete victim here, wow.

hehe, cablevision may not be the victim, but there is no way in hell does ABC deserve 40 million more when our economy is this ****ty.

I say the hell with ABC. let them pull the plug. its only better for the other networks. 72 million to a ceo over 2 years is ughh, a bit much.

Agree with Pared, Cablevision's commercial was ridiculous and not conducive to healthy negotiations. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one drag out for a while.

This reminds me of the fight last year between Dish Network and Fischer Communications. I want to say it took nearly 5 months to resolve that fight. Fischer owns CBS here...I had to watch all of March Madness on my PC or over an antenna. I wasn't too pleased, but stuck it out since there's not much else on CBS I watch. A lot of people I know left Dish Network because of it.

First, Cablevision is deceiving. Everyone in NY knows they run a monopoly on specific areas and they don't really do much to hide from this fact.

I do enjoy Cablevision telling the audience that ABC is trying to make $40 MM more dollars for broadcasting what should be free television.

That's interesting because if I look at my bill, I'm charged by Cablevision for having ABC. So, if ABC is broadcasted free on the air waves, why is Cablevision charging me for that? Hmm.

No, the real truth is this: ABC wants to get paid a percentage of what Cablevision makes in charging their customers to view a free network. Cablevision is playing the victim but the customer is the real victim.

If ABC wins, Cablevision claims the audience will end up paying a billion more per year. The only reason why that's true is because Cablevision will increase what they already charge the customer to view a free service.

Cablevision can't fool me. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do. They still get my money because I have no other choice.

I fear that these "wars" are going to regress the internet-television age.

At a time when the film and television industry should be finding ways to provide broadcasting to viewers over the internet at an affordable rate while avoiding the mistakes that the music industry made in never embracing a technology that has crushed their media, cable television is fighting hard to stay alive.

Cable is dead...or it should be. The same for satellite. There is little reason to receive information to a box at home when the viewer has far more options by using their own laptop or desktop to watch or rerouting the connection to their HD television screen.

However, these wars will make it difficult for networks to embrace the future if they are forced to run to the future. Assume that Disney-ABC has had enough of all this; if they move full steam into online broadcasting they will need to charge that service to customers. As it is right now, they are merely embracing the internet age and supplying free content to its viewers.

HBO is already jumping on the "pay me more for what you already get" wagon. HBO will finally air television on the internet, but you'll have to subscribe to HBO and HBO in-Demand to gain access to the service. I'm sure that HBO is only preparing for their run at the "We want more money" war when that time comes up. Instead of being forced to provide content to viewers through a television box hosted by another company, HBO is hoping to build their viewership online and lay down the ultimate hammer on those cable/satellite companies. "Give us what we want or we'll leave and trust that we will because we have the support to survive."

That commercial I showed you? Yeah, well it appears Cablevision sent out an update to your box where every time you turn it on it goes to channel 1999 where they are just replaying this commercial all day.

So I had to go back in and change the setting again.

But for cablevision to force EVERYONE to have that channel on when they want to watch some tv? They're serious about this. They didn't go that far with the other stations that were missing for some time.

Crazy situation.

Oh, wow, thanks for explaining this.

I never turn my cable box off. I just turn my television off - it's because of the setup and I'd always have to turn the box on manually.

But, I was going through my settings two days ago to find a way to turn off the little pop up that says someone is calling (how do you turn this darn thing off?!) and saw that my box was set to turn on to channel 1999. I was confused but never checked it out. I just changed it back to NY1.

really, that's to pay for upgrade to Disney and pay there CEO 72 million dollars in bonus he made in the last two years, that I believe.

ABC Please, couldn't care if they went off the air or not. Plus the deal always gets met, just like I told people the food network will be back and it was

You can't fault the CEO for that. The board determines bonuses. Obviously they think he's done a good job in a tough economic climate. Iger has turned down some of his bonuses in the recent past. Cablevision's Jim Dolan has made over $28 million over that same period. I'm curious if he's turned any of his compensation down?

I have to laugh at this quote from Cablevision.

Disney is seeking an additional $40 million a year in new fees, Cablevision Systems Corp. spokesman Charles Schueler said in a statement. Cablevision pays more than $200 million a year to Disney.

And how much of that $200 million is strictly for ABC? $0.00. Guess what, there are providers all over the nation who are paying network affiliates money to carry their channel.

The current model of network television is not working and providers are going to have to continually pay more and more. Sooner or later we'll see the free network OTA broadcasts pulled off the air as well.

This is just the latest in a line of networks trying to get paid for what they can't charge for OTA, and there's no reason why a customer should be paying to watch a broadcast channel through their cable provider. They're basically demanding a fee for the convenience of not using an antenna, or whatever the hell people that watch OTA channels use these days.

Regardless, FOX got paid a few months ago, and I'm sure ABC will too.

i dont give a freak who you are. You do not deserve 72 million in 2 years with the economy like this. Get your 72 million when the economy is doing better. YOu dont do it when everything is suffering.

This is a major reason why everything is going to the crapper. People are getting stingier and stingier. The more they get the more they want. You can only suck blood so long before its gone.
