I wanted to watch this but saw the debut was like 85 minutes or something? I have trouble sitting through more than 30-40 minutes of any show's episodes.

Re: Trailer for HBO's new show Treme from creator of The Wire
Never seen The Wire (it's on the list as a must watch. Trust me). So, I'll watch this and make sure I follow from episode one. Sounds like an interesting concept for a series.
The show was envisioned to focus on the working class Tremé neighborhood in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and will be smaller in scope than The Wire, which examined an entire city.
Simon has stated that the series will explore New Orleans culture including and beyond the music scene to encompass political corruption, the public housing controversy, the criminal-justice system, clashes between police and Mardi Gras Indians, and the struggle to regain the tourism industry after the storm."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob NeyerComment

Re: Trailer for HBO's new show Treme from creator of The Wire
Watching this first episode was too much like work. I've had much more fun in a French Quarter bar. Actually to be blunt, I think it sucked. I will watch next time around because of my metro area loyalty, but that will only go so far.Comment

So what's the verdict on this show? I watched the first episode, and didn't like it all that much. But I didn't exactly love the wire after one episode either. Does it get better, is it worth trying to get caught up?Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment
