Looks like a good action film. Although I don't really understand what the plot is. And how many Resident Evil's have there been?

This would be part 4....it continues right where 3 left off....All the movies tie into one another..

So watching the first 3 is a requirement for the 4th?

That would be correct, otherwise you'd be completely lost...Especially considering they kept all surviving actors / characters in each film. And Eve's story is deep and well written into where she is in part 4.

I've never ever seen the 1st RE movie and had no problems viewing the 2nd or 3rd. If you have any knowledge of the games, watching the 1st 3 shouldn't be required. It's a summer popcorn action series not The Godfather trilogy.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Well if you've never seen the first one, then you definitely don't know how the virus became about, where it started, who Alice really is, and so on.

I'ts more than popcorn action, and it has nothing to do with the video games, it's using the characters and a bit of a name branding of Umbrella and so on. But the stories are different. Waaaaay different. Just like in this trailer you see the clones, and even Wesker in Alaska, etc. Something that wasn't in any video game.

I agree with Taur3asi3 on this.

You can pretty much watch them all out of order and still follow along easy enough if you just pay a little attention.

                  They're fun little action/horror films.

                    Was that Alaska, or Antartica?

They also seem to have taken the executioner from RE5.

Also, what song from A Perfect Circle was that in the trailer?

There's a story in these movies? LOL You can easily watch them out of order. They are popcorn action flicks (that have all been pretty terrible IMO). I'll wait for DVD to once again be disappointed that no on can make a good Resident Evil movie that actually follows, I dunno, the videogame?!

You could go watch Residentl Evil: Degeneration. It takes place in between 4 & 5 and features Leon Scott Kennedy.

Yah, this looks good. It's a decent action series, and the story is... suitable, lol.

I agree with EG though; it would be sweet if they made a really high quality film that followed the plot of the games.

Wesker might be worth watching if the role is played well enough. The fact that it was shot using Cameron's new camera-creation might be cool, as well.

But all-in-all, this series has been a complete letdown. It seems like there's a lot of RE5 (the executioner, the zombies' mouth's opening/flowering like that, etc) in this one. We'll see how this goes, but there's no way I'm paying for it.

It sounds like a remixed version of The Outsider
