I get that. There aren't many guys in Hollywood that use their imagination to it's fullest nowadays, so kudos to him. But you say earlier that it isn't 'that bad'. Where exactly do you draw the line? So what if a guy films a movie depicting 7 year olds beheading each other and dismembering the bodies. The director is having fun with his imagination, so it's ok.

I get what you are saying, I really do. I just don't know where exactly the line should be drawn when it comes to stuff like this. I don't think this movie has crossed that line to be honest, and I would probably watch it were it on, as I love watching strange films once in a while, especially when they deal with science or anything of that nature. However, the whole idea of "hey, he's using his imagination, let him have at it" is a pretty spotty way of thinking.

WTF. I don't waste my time with crap like this.

Like others have said the horror genre is just going for the shock value of grossing out audiences these days. I prefer a good story and suspense rather than watching guts gets slew all about the place.

So what's so horrible and gross about this?

I would watch it on DVD. Sicker the better.

I understand some people don't like that sort of stuff. But the idea that some people are tossing around that this guy is mentally sick and needs help is what I'm against. The guy got an idea and decided to just run with it as a fictional horror story. In what way does he need help? Pedophiles need help. Rapists need help. Murderers need help. A script writer using his imagination to come up with a story doesn't; he's not hurting anyone or do anything wrong; he's simply writing a story.

Just like you see it as you do, others can do the same. And if they want to see this guy as a sick bastard with mental issues, let them. Who are you to say otherwise? Especially when you can't prove he doesn't.

Maybe that'll be the 3rd movie in the trilogy .

From reading the spoilers on wikipedia, this is a really disgusting and disturbing move. Though I often wonder how people come up with such films, I don't have any real issue with them other than being disgusting. There are plenty of other films out there dealing with horrific human experimentation.

Watched about 20 min of Salo and turned it off.

Seriously...you can try and spin it anyway you want...and many folks think its "cool" to disagree simply for disagreeing's sake....

But stuff like Salo, this crap, and others has no redeeming value whatsoever.

I'm all for horror movies, etc. I love Nightmare on Elm Street, Carrie, Christine, etc.

But there is nothing, in my opinion, that can be gained from watching this kind of garbage.

Seriously...you are one f****d up dude to make what equates to 2 hours of torture porn.

And as others have said, it seems more directors have come to the "can you top that" side of things and tried to come up with the most disturbing stuff imaginable and then call it "groundbreaking".

In other words....there is a line that is being crossed in movies such as Salo, etc.

I'm not gonna watch 2 hours worth of young italian boys being mutilated, forced to eat feces, raped, then murdered and then clap and say "Bravo!!, brilliant!! simply brilliant!!"

I'm not gonna suddenly "understand" the "message" the disturbed director is trying to convey...other than they are sick f***ks who get off on making truly messed up flicks.

                      But hey..that's just my opinion.

Did a wikipedia search for "Salo" and initially got a disambiguation page. It listed the full title of the film for the article and after reading the title, I decided I didn't want to read any further.
