I will now edit out my location from my profile, thank you very much.
Ok, seriously, I get both sides of the fence here and I think both sides just aren't listening to each other.
One side says it's a story and imagination. It is. You don't have to be a sick person to think of something disgusting. Everyone has different levels of imagination. I don't want to kill anyone but I surely can sit down and think of some disgusting ways to torture people if I wanted to. Does that mean I want to do it? Of course not. The imagination is an amazing tool. People have imagined dragons and unicorns; why not people stapled together to form a centipede?
It's just thoughts. And it's a film. Aren't films made to explore the imagination and put forth things that may or may not ever happen in real life? Do I enjoy this type of movie? No. Torture Porn is disgusting to me. I don't like watching it and never will. There are people that do so I guess that's good for them. But, again, it's a film. Films explore the unimaginable in more ways than one. This movie is disturbing because it involves the mutilation of people. Couldn't someone imagining an elf be disturbing to someone else? And I bet it is to some people.
That being said, the other side doesn't find the quality in this sort of picture. And I say they are right too. Maybe they are overreacting, but people will do that no matter what it is they see on screen. A young girl should probably never curse in front of adults, yet there is one cursing up a storm in a film. There are differences between imagination and reality, but many will agree that there are a good number of people who find it difficult to separate the two sides.
There are questions to ask if someone enjoy this sort of film, but I don't think those questions should be made personal. It's all preference.
