    Free program to unzip files?

    Anyone know one?

WinRAR and WinZip both want you to pay to unzip files and I say F that, so I was wondering if anyone knew a free program that will get the job done?

Winrar is free, you just close the first box that pops up. I guess if you pay for it, that box never shows up.

It's funny that they make you pay now, I remember when I had a 40-day trial from WinRAR last about six years. Did you run a trial through them yet and see if it actually expired on you?

I don't know of any other unzipping programs other than those two, because they are all I've had to use.

Yeah I had WinZip but the 45 day "evaluation version" just expired on me last night and it won't let me use it anymore unless I have a serial number to use.

Just uninstall it off your computer and then redownload it again. This restarts the 45-day evaluation period. You can do this indefinitely. I've done it for over a year now with no problems.

That seems like a strange program to try to charge people for imo. You'd think something as basic/small as that should be standard in Windows or something?

It is standard in windows. Right-click on a zip file and select Extract All.

Really? Then why do we need to download a program to do it? I didn't think it came standard?

depends on the compression/format I suppose. I believe XP and up should be able to zip/unzip any .zip files though.

I used WinRAR. I never paid for it. I just hit close when the box come up. still works. although I also have 7zip installed.

Yeah that was why I was looking for a free program because Windows can unzip files by itself, just not .rar files.
