Although I liked it, I think The Hangover was heavily overrated. Also, I agree on Scarface - pretty crummy movie all around. Avatar got way too much praise considering its plot, which was fairly lame. Also, the whole Rush Hour series is unfunny trash, as was Epic Movie (worst comedy I've ever seen), and The Matrix was pretty awful as well besides the effects (Keanu Reeves is a terrible, terrible actor). Scarface is the ultimate wankster movie. Anyone who aspired to be a drug dealer but never actually sold drugs thinks it's the greatest thing ever.
I'll throw in:
Every 2008 Oscar movie (No Country, There Will Be Blood, Juno, etc)
The Wrestler (great performance, not a great movie)
Gran Torino
Every biopic ever (aside from Ironman)
Spiderman/XMen 1 and 2 (they man have been good at the time but after Ironman and the new Batman movies, they don't hold up well)
Knocked Up
Regarding The Hangover, I was disappointed the first time I saw it because I was expecting non-stop hilariousness, but after multiple viewings recently since it's been on HBO, I think it is a consistently funny movie.Comment

Gran Torino was such a bad movie. It consisted of Clint Eastwood saying whatever racial epithets he could think of while being surrounded by the worst supporting cast outside of a porn movie. I honestly have no idea why it got so much attention.Originally posted by BlzerComment

And for the person who said There Will Be Blood is overrated, ...to each their own.....but its one of the best movies ever.

While I could agree with 2 and 3 (although I never thought of them being extremely highly acclaimed) ...I would defend matrix 1 to the death. It's one of the best viewing experiences I've ever had in a theatre, it's extremely original and fantastically executed. It's a brilliant brilliant movie imo. Wow is it ever good.
I'll go with Avatar (saw it regular at home so I wasn't dazzled by the hype and 3D'ness)
Gladiator is overrated as a film. I don't know how Crowe won Beat actor for it and although many aspects of it are great, overall it's for sure overrated as a film.
Knocked up. not nearly as funny as I thought it would be and what people would have me believe.

Because I just said something so bold I'm going to watch again soon just to make sure. But honestly, it's not the holy grail of movies to me and isn't even in my top 20 maybe 30 hell maybe 40 or 50 lol.
To me it's one of those things that people just say because everyone else says. Like Ali being the greatest of all time (when it was really SRR) or something of that nature. The whole "it's the perfect movie" bullcrash I can't listen to.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Gotta agree with this. That movie had to have had the worst supporting cast of all time, just a bunch of horrible actors and Eastwood playing a cliche cranky old racist. Not a very enjoyable film at all imo.

I'd actually say quite a few of Sandler's movies are underrated. Like Waterboy; pretty good movie but it got slammed by a lot of reviews, and gets pretty mediocre user ratings. Even Billy Madison which is a good comedy got pretty **** reviews.
I'd say his comedies don't get enough respect.Comment
