    ebay question...

can someone scam you even if you have a payment from paypal? I sold my phone and just got notification of payment in my pay pal account. The person sent me this message

Hi.. I am the winner of your iphone! Could you please kindly pack everything well for me as I want to receive everything in top shape. Please do me a favor by placing a rubber band around the iphone box before putting it inside the Priority Mail box as I want everything to sit firmly inside the box during the transit. Thanks & looking forward to receiving the Priority Mail tracking # from you tomorrow. Thanks! Please only use Priority Mail as it will deliver much faster! Also, I will leave you a great feedback as soon as I receive the package. But you DON'T need to leave me any feedback on this deal as I don't want any feedback. Thanks!

just sounds a little strange to me.

Hope it's alright for me to piggyback on this thread since it is an EBay thread. I'm looking at selling something via EBay. What are the typical fees due once an item sells? It says its like 9% of the selling value (up to $5) and of course any shipping fees. Is that about it? So if I sold something for $500, I'd have to pay Ebay the $50 plus any listing fees and I'd take what was left?

You can get ripped off at any time really. They can claim it was damaged during delivery, which they'd have to send it back to you. You could then end up with a brick, a broken item they swapped out on you, or even nothing at all. All they have to do is give paypal a delivery confirmation number as proof of return, then they get their money back.

I hope you get delivery confirmation as well as insurance on the package for an iphone.

Always write down the serial and take a picture of the ESN (?) number inside the battery case if the Iphone has one. I like to make a mark and take a picture of the item just so I have proof if they try and swap it.

I used to sell Xbox elites and buyers would say they didn't work upon arrival but I wrote down the serial and asked for it upon complaint. I never received a return.

Just wrap it up with some bubble wrap and your good. I also sold a few droids and HTC eris phones and no broken units using the $5 flat rate box and bubble wrap.

I did delivery confirmation and tracking number. Got insurance too. I checked this guys recent history and he seems to buy lots of apple products including iPhones. Hopefully everything works out.

yeah, I tell buyers that I keep that kind of documentation, and have actually had buyers back out of asking for replacements after telling them this.

I still only sell on ebay as a last result though. I've been screwed by ebay and paypal too many times really.

Wow, that is a very "fishy" sounding message. But if he has good feedback, and purchases lots of apple products, he may very well be legit. Best of luck with it.
