    Re: The Social Network

I have to admit this wasn't a movie I really had interest in seeing. I knew it was about Facebook (a site I've always enjoyed), I knew it had Trent Reznor running the score (one of my favorite musical artists), and I knew it was getting great reviews. But I just had a hard time getting myself pumped up to see it. I was wondering, what could possibly happen within the course of two hours that'd make this film really interesting? I was just picturing college partying, a slew of computer scenes and. . .well that was about it.

However, after taking in the film last night, I must admit that I really, really enjoyed it. It was a satisfying watch throughout. The movie moves at a consistantly solid rate. I don't really remember a point where I had to ask myself, "Okay, how much longer?" Even with this being a fantastical account, it was just a good story. And that's how my friend described it to me beforehand. He explained it wasn't too crazy, but it's just a story that sort of rolls itself out before you, and it's a good one.

Also, Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor did not dissapoint. It just seemed like all movie aspects came together for this one. I even have to say, I don't think Justin Timberlake did too bad either. For one reason or another, I forgot the character was even being played by Timberlake, which is a good thing.

I can't say The Social Network will blow everyone away. It's not super crazy spectacular insane. But it was definitely a good experience. It also inspired me to actually do some research and see what matched up in the movie versus the real life facts. It shakes out about as one would expect. The general ideas were very similar, but the details are often exaggerated. The most significant difference I've been picking up is that Mark Zuckerburg isn't as much of a jerk as he's portrayed. I'll go ahead and look for the link I was looking at earlier for those who are interested.

This movie definitely gets my approval.

The scene in the nightclub is arguably one of the best moments in film....

I just finished watching this about an hour ago. I thought it was very solid, but it wasn't as good as all of the hype made it out to be (which is usually the case).

I have to say I'm surprised I enjoyed a movie that was basically all talking and really nothing else. I guess that goes to show how solid the acting was.

Speaking of the dialog, there were some pretty great quotes. My favorite being from one of the scenes with the Winklevoss twins and their buddy:

Just watched this again the other day. One minor qualm I had with the film itself: its PG-13 rating. That darn quote from one of the twins: "Let's kill the frickin' nerd" sounds like it was edited for play on the USA network. Even in the commentary, swear words were bleeped out. Clearly, I still enjoyed the movie, but I wish there wasn't that weird censorship.

I found this especially strange since at one point, David Fincher tried to tell us what word he wanted to use instead of "dick" when it was written on a piece of paper in one scene. When he says it, it's bleeped out. So how are we supposed to know what it is?

Turns out it was really supposed to be the c-word, but that apparently didn't fly by the MPAA without making it rated R.

Yessir, that was the other big example I was thinking of. Inside, I was thinking, "Really? That was the message that made him upset enough to get up and leave class?"

                I agree with VDusen

I take back everything I said to start in the thread, the film was actually pretty enjoyable. But maybe that's because I came in with extremely low expectations.

I figured, a spiced up story about the creation of FB, PG-13, how much would I really like it?

Had a lot more substance than I thought it would even though all of the characters are sort of glossed over... it wasn't cheesy or too over the top for me, which is how I thought it would turn out. I really enjoyed the main character.

Can't believe it took me that long to finally watch it.
