It was good, I liked it. But the problem is...how can this concept last? I can't see it working past two seasons or maybe three. I see that's why they're building so hard on the characters, but as seen from lots of zombie movies, it's hard to keep the threat of zombies so compelling. Romero's newer zombie films have been terrible, the zombies are an afterthought. Same with those stupid Resident Evil movies. I liked TWD's portrayal of the zombies, some of them as bloodthirsty cannibals, others as sympathetic trapped souls.
I don't know, I'm hopeful it can keep up its momentum, but I'm questioning how far it can go past a few seasons.Comment

How will it last beyond a season or two?
The answer is: The show isn't about zombies.
In all seriousness, that's the truth. Zombies are part of their world, it's the hook that brings you in, but the show is not about them. It's about the people.
The producers, AMC, the writers, their target audience get that. Really, in an hour and a half of television, how many times did you see characters truly interact with zombies? ^ Exactly. The show is brillianty paced and written. And I should point out too that even just three extremely well written seasons would not be a bad thing either. Look at the Avatar cartoon series. That's only three lengthy seasons and it's perfect in duration and quality. Not EVERY show has to last eight seasons to be great.Comment

A comic is a comic. This is a TV show. You can get away with rehashing in comics, but a weekly show, multiple seasons, that isn't going to happen. The zombie genre is pretty used up at this point, next to everything has been done.
I hope I'm wrong about it, it's not like I don't have faith in AMC/Darabont. I just don't know how this concept can stay fresh for multiple seasons. Zombies themselves are not engaging characters. And zombie films have explored all of the ground in this genre, already. So at a lot of points, TWD is just going to feel like familiar territory.
Personally, I think this show will find enough of a cult audience to stay going for at least three seasons. It's never been done before in TV form. Even if it feels familiar at times, it has that much going for it.Comment
