Re: Hollywood is Making 'Battleship' into a Movie, Seriously
Peter Berg is directing. I've liked quite a few of his films (Friday Night Lights [film and two episodes of the series], The Kingdom, The Rundown, Hancock, etc. as well as the very first 30 for 30 from ESPN)
Taylor Kitsch is the lead role and he's an actor I've always enjoyed (Tim Riggins on the FNL series, Gambit in the latest X-Men film) and Alexander Skarsgård (Generation Kill and True Blood) is starring alongside him.
Although, when the plot is described as "At sea, a Naval fleet must protect Earth from extraterrestrial invaders.", it makes me worry.
Nonetheless, this wont be out until 2012 so there's plenty of time to see whether it will be good or bad. -
Re: Hollywood is Making 'Battleship' into a Movie, Seriously
Kinda old news because Hollywood went on a game board rights buying binge last year, but no one started a thread about it so I guess it had to come up.
It's an example of using a popular title to promote a film. The plot has very little to do with the actual game (well, how could it, really?) but the fact there is a Naval fleet.
Honestly, I think this is a big mistake and not because it's a film about Battleship. I think it's a mistake because it'll get trashed for being a movie about the game. I think this type of film would have done better on its own name."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Hollywood is Making 'Battleship' into a Movie, Seriously
The plot sounds cheesy as all hell and is bound to make this movie a failure. We talked about this a while ago (quite a while actually) and I said it could work if they made it more of a historical action flick set in WWII.
The only other board game that could work as a movie (other then Clue which was a damn good movie IMO) is Monopoly.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I read a bit on the concept and I think it'll work.
Battleship...eh. Not sure about it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Can we get a Snakes & Ladders movie with Samuel L. Jackson in the lead? "All these mother****ing snakes on mother****ing ladders! Yes they deserve to die and I hope they burn in hell!"Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

How could you screw up Battleship? It seems like it would be the most obvious and straight forward board-game-to-movie transition, especially when compared to Monopoly, but yet Hollywood finds a way.

When I think of Battleship I only picture one thing ..
The episode on the Simpson's where they're at the retirement home and the old folks are playing bingo and each time a number was called, old man Jasper would yell out..
"YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP "Comment
