Re: What are you listening to?

I kinda developed musically the same way. I'm a fan of most genres overall, I can get into almost anything. You can't just jump from radio rock to deathcore, it's a progression. Most people will say "why are they screaming" or "you can't even tell what they're saying". It's definitely an acquired taste.

edit: me personally, it fires me up, and I love the musicianship.

Indeed. It's a knee jerk reaction for me, nothing against anyones personal preferences. I'm sure there is plenty of music that I listen to that others question as well

The Black Keys. It's my first really trying to listen to them and I really dig it.

I've seen Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon, Evergreen Terrace, Asking Alexandria, Mudvayne, God Forbid, Slipknot, and As Blood Runs Black live... would love to add Trivium to that list.

I've suddenly gotten into a big R&B kick.

I really feel The Deftones found their sweet spot on this album.

Yeah, screamed vocals is definitely an aqcuired taste. For a period of time Nirvana was the heaviest band I listened to. Then in early 2005 I got into Avenged Sevenfold's first couple albums (just before City of Evil came out) and got used to screamed vocals and now I have no problem with them.

The Modest Mouse cd that got me into them. Now I own all their discs and honestly they haven't changed much from "This Is A Long Drive", just a bit more polish.

The cd that got me into Queens Of The Stone Age. While they will probably never match it, they remain one of my favorite groups. This disc is an all time classic in music.

Exact same albums that got me into those bands.

Lonesome Crowded West is a good end of summer/early fall album while The Moon & Antarctica is a good album for the winter. Of course, I had heard a couple of songs off The Moon from commercials. Wild Pack of Family Dogs is probably my favorite song of theirs. Its nowhere near their best, but its very poignant with a bittersweet tinge at the end of it.

I would agree that is QOTSA's best. Sometimes Rated R gets pulled into that conversation, but I just love how Songs for the Deaf flows from beginning to end. I know people dislike the radio interludes, but they provide some nice transitions. If I'm really in the mood (usually around October) Lullabies to Paralyze gets played extensively. I'm hoping there will be either an Eagles of Death Metal or QOTSA album this year or next year. They're due for a new one.

Anyway, been listening to Chris Robinson's new band/sideproject - Chris Robinson Brotherhood (nice little jab at his brother I imagine) and their debut album Big Moon Ritual. I caught them when they touring last year and they did an awesome job. My buddy and I met a couple of the band guys and talked to Chris for a little bit (he signed my friend's original cd pressing of Amorica). Chris is definitely one of my favorite vocalists in rock. Not a lot of "power" ala Chris Cornell, but I love his range and he's got some genuine country-soul in there. They're more along the lines of Grateful Dead and other roots rock jam bands. The vinyl packaging is exquisite - definitely recommend it to all the vinyl guys out there.

Well Queens supposedly are working on a new disc. The exact release date remains to be heard. I'm guessing late this year to early next year though.
