Re: What are you listening to?

3 perfect 10's in my 3x3 this week and 1 5/5, p. good.

Spoiler
LCD Soundsystem | This Is Happening: Of course Yames Murphy’s best work is his last. This was just an utter masterpiece. Everything on here is perfect. The king wears a king hat and lives in a king house. 10/10
Fav Songs: Dance Yrself Clean, Drunk Girls, All I Want, I Can Change, You Wanted A Hit, Pow Pow
Dr. Dre | Compton: I saw Straight Outta Compton (which was great) and felt compelled to hit this up. I think this may lie behind The Chronic and 2001 if we’re ranking Dre. What I appreciate about this is that Dre doesn’t try to be who he was on 2001 or The Chronic, and he’s sort of embraced his age in his raps and yeah he comes off a little stereotypical in the “old man bragging about what he’s done” sense but that’s better than pretending he’s 25. Take notes, Jay. But man, the skits on Loose Cannon and Deep Water are baaaaad. 8.2/10
Fav Songs: Talk About It, Genocide, Darkside/Gone, Issues, Deep Water (except for the “skit”) One Shot One Kill, Just Another Day
Migos | YRN: Without a doubt Migos’ weakest offering. I went in hoping there was something that tried to follow up on Fight Night, but there’s nothing there. Songs meant to be more meaningful than Fight Night come off just bland and boring. Also, features Chris Brown, which is an automatic skip for me. 6.6/10
Fav Songs: Highway 85, Gangsta Rap, Trap Funk
Ellie Goulding | Bright Lights: Ellie Goulding is bae. Halycon was great, but El’s debut is her best work to date. I love every song on this album and its proof that pop is not inherently bad. I’m willing to commission a painting that depicts Ellie Goulding as a goddess, Lauren Mayberry as a queen, and Megan James as a high priest. 10/10
Fav Songs: Guns And Horses, Starry Eyed, Under The Sheets, The Writer, Wish I Stayed, Your Biggest Mistake, Salt Skin, Lights, Home, Your Song, The End
Carly Rae Jepsen | Emotion: Bright Lights gave me the courage to finally see what this was about. It was cookie cutter pop music for the most part, but it was good cookie cutter pop music. Nobody wants their pop music to be too introspective but at the same time nobody wants 15 tracks of Call Me Maybe, and Carly Bae Jepsen got it this go around. Sure some of the songs are really forgettable, but they’re not bad for putting on in the background. The album peaked when it slowed down and became more subdued (All That) and Warm Blood reminds me a lot of the synthpop that I love 2 death. 7.1/10
Fav Songs: Emotions, I Really Like You, All That, Making The Most Of The Night, Warm Blood
ZA BRA | EP: Doing my part to support local bands. Baton Rouge represent. Caught them live and they’re fairly decent. A lot better in studio though. Mix of funk and psych rock with heavy, well-defined riffs. Think Arctic Monkeys meets Hendrix. Female singer’s voice is a very acquired taste, so much so that I myself have not yet acquired it. Technically this is just a string of singles on soundcloud but for ****s and giggles let’s slap this with a 3.5/5.
Fav Songs: Acid, Funk It
Vox Vocis | The Winter EP: Opened for ZA BRA, or ZA Bra closed for them. Either way, they’re like the Dr. Thunder to Coheed And Cambria’s Dr. Pepper. 4 track single, but every song sounded like a C&C song, just with a singer that can’t hit the same notes. 3/5
Fav Songs: Erroneous Anacrusis, Side Effects Take Effect, A Fire Favored
R. L. Kelly | Life’s A Bummer:I’ve been hungering to listen to this. Nothing but awesome sauce to get lost in here brothers. This music is depressing as hell and that's OK. You could say that this is a familiar haunt for me hahahaha sorry. 5/5
Fav Songs: You’re Not The Only Monster From Hell, Change, Familiar Haunt, Woke Up Feeling Sad, Life’s A Bummer
TV Girl | French Exit: First spin from the new additions, and this only gets better and better with every listen. If you don’t listen to TV Girl then you need to right that ship. 10/10
Fav Songs: Pantyhose, Birds Don’t Sing, Louise, Hate Yourself, The Getaway, The Blonde, Lover’s Rock, Come When You Call, Anjela
Fav Songs: Dance Yrself Clean, Drunk Girls, All I Want, I Can Change, You Wanted A Hit, Pow Pow
