Re: What are you listening to?

Spoiler
Shakey Graves | And The War Came: I just didn't care much for this the first time round, but I found that I can get down to his more upbeat stuff. Problem was that was severely lacking. 5.6/10
Fav Songs: Dearly Departed, The Perfect Parts, Pansy Waltz
Jeff Rosenstock | We Cool?: There's a lot of albums this year that I have high praise for, but this is one of the 4-5 that are actually in my running for AOTY. Most of my spins of this album come from my addiction of Get Old Forever and the once I get the high, there's no want to change to anything else. I can throw superlatives at this album all damn day. 9.9/10
Fav Songs: Get Old Forever, You, In Weird Cities, Novelty Sweater, Nausea, Beers Again Alone, I'm Serious, I'm Sorry, Hey Allison!, Polar Bear Or Africa, Hall Of Fame, The Lows
Big Data | 2.0: Another AOTY candidate, but this one is a step behind We Cool? for me. This is just so much fun to listen to. Doesn't hurt that most of the features are artists I adore. There are times where Dangerous is stuck in my head and there are times where I'm asleep. 9.5/10
Fav Songs: The Business Of Emotion, Dangerous, Clean, Snowed In, Big Dater, Sick For Me, Perfect Holiday
YO FAM PASSION PIT TIME. Saw them in NOLA on Wednesday with Atlas Genius as the opener. I've been on my Passion Pit since Chunk Of Change came out when I was in high school, and I'm about to graduate college. Needless to say, I was excited, but cautious. Because I knew A) Angelakos sings in a falsetto a lot, which is fine in studio but can be challenging and B) because I knew synthpop bands usually don't lend themselves to great live shows.
Hoooooo buddy was I wrong. Angelakos powered through songs, singing his falsetto songs first. There were no breaks in the songs, it was bang bang. They played a good 75% of their discography in an hour and a half. It was lit.
After the concert, there was no getting them out of my head, so I rode that train. Quick Passion Pit album rankings:
Manners (9.8/10) > Gossamer (9.5/10) > Kindred (8.7/10)
Atlas Genius | Inanimate Objects: This got a listen after the concert, because I honestly had no clue they had a new album. It was pretty alright, I need to familiarize myself with it more, but for now it gets a solid 7.5/10
Fav Songs: Molecules, Stockholm, Refugees, A Perfect End, Balladino
Wild Child | Pillow Talk: I hated this ****. Garbage. Ruined an otherwise great week musically for Adam. 2/10And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

Re: What are you listening to?
I've been listening to a lot of REO recently. This song wasn't a major hit, but my favorite one.
Gary Richrath has almost a 3 minute guitar solo in the middle of the song, starting around the 3 minute mark and finishes the song with about another 1.5 minute solo.
Golden Country.

Re: What are you listening to?
I never thought I would say this, but right now, my favorite music of the year is Keith Richards new one, Crosseyed Heart.
There is so much variety to the music, it doesn't get old. There are a few ballads, some up tempo rockers and blues, country and a few reggae songs to boot.
For someone that has lived the life and looks like he could have died years ago, at 71 and still putting out this kind of music is remarkable.

Re: What are you listening to?

Spoiler
Gorillaz | Demon Days: It deserves all the hype it's ever gotten, but to me Plastic Beach is better, by a pretty decent stretch. I don't know why, but Damon Albarn's voice just suits the Gorillaz' sounds better than it does Blur's. 9.4/10
Plastic Beach > Demon Days > s/t
Fav Songs: Kids With Guns, Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc., El Manana, Every Planet We Reach Is Dead (lowkey the Gorillaz' best song), All Alone, DARE, Don't Get Lost In Heaven
Big Boi | Dangerous Lies And Vicious Rumors: BIG GRAMS IS HAPPENING! OBAMA KEEPING PROMISES Y'ALL. BLESSINGS BE UPON US! I like Phantogram, but not on the level that I ride for them like I do CHVRCHES, Purity Ring, Washed Out, or Passion Pit. But with Big Boi, they just mesh well. I can't wait to have an album of nothing but this (plus RTJ). It's kind of weird to say considering he was great, but a lot of times on this album the features were better than Big Boi. 9.2/10
Fav Songs: Objectum Sexuality, In The A, CPU, Thom Pettie, Lines, Shoes For Running, Higher Res, Gossip
Stanton Moore | Conversations: Hey, I'm from south Louisiana, I can't hide my love for the yazz music and Stanton Moore is one of my staples when I feel in the mood. 7/10
No fav songs because honestly I just put this on and let it play. I can name the songs but if you play a song that isn't Tchefunkta and asked me to name it I probably couldn't
Phantogram | Nightlife: Getting ready for Big Grams. Not really their best work, which makes sense given that it came out between albums. 2/5
Fav Songs: 16 Years, Don't Move, Make A Fist
Phantogram | Voices: Just slightly edges out their debut album for me. I liked the more coherent sound and (mostly) abandonment of Josh Carter vocally lead songs. Extremely good for singing while commuting home from a long days work. If they can consistently make songs as good as Black Out Days and Fall In Love, then they'd be ****ing around with a 10/10. Alas, 8/10
Fav Songs: Black Out Days, Fall In Love, Howling At The Moon, Bad Dreams, My Only Friend
Phantogram | Eyelid Movies: Phantogram improved a lot from this album as stated above, but it's still a good album and I can make room for it in my library with no problem. Again, there's a handful of songs that kind of leave me disappointed because they're so great that it makes it really obvious which songs they really didn't put forth their best effort on. 7.8/10
Fav Songs: Mouthful Of Diamonds, When I'm Small, Turn It Off, Running From The Cops, As Far As I Can See
Taylor Swift | 1989: Again, I'm so meh on Taylor Swift. She's good, but a lot of her stuff just doesn't do much for me. With that said, the last three song #onhere are GREAT. Don't care much for most of her singles outside the occasional guilty pleasure play, but I ****s heavily with the back end here. 7/10
Fav Songs: Style, Wildest Dreams, This Love, I Know Places, Clean
Wavves | Wavves: I decided it was time to see what the rest of Wavves' discography was about so I started at the source. I was feeling it early on but as it progress I just thought it lost the plot more and more to the point where I had to check to see if it was still the same album. I'll check out their follow up, but the back end of this really put me off. 6/10
Fav Songs: Loser Year, Wavves, Vermin, Here's To The Sun, The Boys Will Love Us
Boosie Badazz | Touchdown 2 Cause Hell: Again, I am South Louisiana and so can you! This isn't Terrance's best work, but damn it felt nice to hear Webbie and Boosie back on the same track together. It felt like I was back in middle school. Introspective Lil Boosie is weird though. Don't like it. 7/10
Fav Songs: Like A Man, On Deck, Retaliation, On That Level, Hip Hop Hooray, All I Know, Drop Top MusicAnd may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU
