HDNet tends to have a lot of nudity at night.

And God bless them for that.

We have Dish. It's okay. The HD picture doesn't look up to par, IMO, but that might be because I've grown used to Blu-Rays given that I watch them a lot. No MLB Network or MLB Extra Innings sucks. And depending on the popularity of your sports team, there may be nights where their game isn't in HD even though it should be. Happens to the Brewers often.

I'd have gone DirecTV, but Dish isn't terrible.

Why does DTV want me to change my "old" plan just so I can add the Sports Pack?

If you change something on your plan, they want to put you on a current plan. While it might be more expensive, they really want everyone on the same plan so they don't have people on grandfather plans for years and years. It makes it harder to code for all the different options.

The consumer couldn't care less though.

Yeah if you do it online, you have to change the package. Usually they can do it if you call them without a problem.

Does it matter if we have an outstanding balance on the account? I guess my Dad (he's the account holder) didn't/hasn't paid the bill for this month yet?

not for a month although they may bother you as far as making a notice pop up everytime you turn the channel or something first if anything.

I dont know either how its awful, I have dish too, switched from directv about a month ago cause they tryed to get me to pay $200 to upgrade to HD. After telling the guy I aint paying that he then went down to $90, I said call ya back. Called dish and I have free HD for life and only pay like $67 a month for the first year and then it goes up to like $75 for the same channels as directv and with them I was paying $90 so its $15 cheaper for the same thing, its all the same channels as Directv and the pic is the same anyways I see no difference. When I called directv to cancel then they wanted to give me the upgrade for free, lol.

All in all I would go with dish cause its cheaper and the channels are the same anyways. They also just launched a new satellite back in June and they are supposed to go all HD from what the installer for dish told me.

IMO HD is HD. It all depends on the TV you have I guess. I have a 46 in 120hz samsung 1080p and the pic in fabulous. There arent many channels in 1080p yet anyway mostly 720p. Just the pay per movies are in 1080p. Ive seen directv in HD, Dish in HD, and cable in HD, I see no difference .

I have dish network and can't complain about picture quality or price. But, when it rains VERY heavily (with thunder and lightning) the signal goes out. Also, during last winter when the east coast was slammed with snow, we had to constantly go outside and wipe the snow off the dish every few hours, otherwise the signal would go out.

I'm probably going with Fios once my dish contract ends.

That's why directTV is my first choice.

Yes, but only if the signal is compressed the same. The signals are not compressed the same though.

Exactly. When you aren't talking about blu rays (or HD-DVDs) compression is going to make all the difference.
