    Yeah i'm thinking that means it burns dvd and cd's but not blu's. Not a major issue yet but i guess it could be down the track as blu's slowly take over as the norm. That could be part of the big difference in cost. Just something to take into consideration.

      Certainly. I suppose if that was up my alley I would consider the purchase for the $1299 model more heavily, but at this point I just don't show much concern for stuff like that. I think I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

        Yeah i have the dearer one and have never used the BR burner once. Everything i download is usually in avi / mpeg format that fits easily on standard dvd's anyway. Might come in handy later but it's def not crucial. The laptop does weight a heap though, luckily i mainly use mine like a desktop but it's not the most portable notebook in the world that's for sure.

          With the price of external and portable hard drives being so cheap I don't ever see blu-ray burners being necessity.
