    Re: DLP or LCD

I have a DLP 720p Mitsubishi HD projector and it's got a beautiful picture spread across my 101" screen. As others with DLP technology have said, you must replace the bulb when it wears out. My projector lasted about a year and a half until it reached its 3000 hr low level limit.

If you're looking for low initial cost, DLP projectors/TVs are where it's at. Great picture and huge size for a fraction of the cost of LCD, plasma and LED TVs. My bulb was 300$ from the manufacturer, but I could have gotten a cheaper one from Hong Kong for like 200$.

If you have the space, you can get a projector and screen for cheaper than the largest TV available and you can produce a picture far bigger than you can ever imagine.

hmmm... no mention of the resolution. it could really make a difference since you're considering going up in size.

I toiled for months over plasma vs LCD. Everyone tried to crap on plasmas because of screen burn. Screen burn has not been an issue. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

My point is that there are pros and cons to all of the new HD TV technologies. at the end of the day here are the only things that matter.

      1. Budget
      2. Space (TV size)
      3. Viewing distance (do your research here to see if you really will notice the difference between 1080 or 720)

anything other considerations are really going to drive you crazy

        There are multiple 63in 3d plasma's....

I was checking out the Samsung PN-C8000 series (PN63C8000). Crutchfield has a nice off of a free 3D blu-ray player and movie with the TV. My theory is that 3D is only a bit more so why not get a great TV that also has 3D (even if I don't use it that often). The glasses don't bother me at all. I know I'm in the minority in that regard, but it's not something that bothers me, gets in the way or makes me feel foolish (I know a handful of people that don't want to wear the glasses because they think they look bad with them on. Hell, we're all vain to a point, but in my own house? Nah...

I'm not a fan of plasmas, but a lot of people like them and have had good experiences with them.

Still no standards though, so I'm waiting.
That company is LG. I believe they may test the markets in Japan toward the end of this year. Don't think they even hinted at releasing one in the US anytime soon. If you think 3D TVs are expensive now, not sure I'd want to see the price tag on a "glasses free" one.

Aren't there some reports that Sony is working on something similar as well?

Sony and Toshiba are working on one as well. In fact, I think it is Toshiba that may be releasing at the end of the year--not LG.

The bulb replacement is more like every 1.5 years. It's gonna start to fade around 1800 hours and be dead by 2,000 in my experience. We have had a Samsung DLP since December 2006 and replaced the bulb 3 tmies. The good thing is, bulb replacement is usually covered under the extended warranty. We got a 4 year extended warranty so we have gotten "free" bulb since we got them.

I love DLP, but it does have issues with viewing angles so take that into consideration.
