Re: Dark Tower movie AND TV series confirmed
Universal now doesn't want to drop The Dark Tower. Instead they are pushing back the start date from this fall into sometime next year. They want to lower production costs which likely means a script rewrite.
The delays may put Bardem's role in the film into question."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Good news, bad news. Perhaps bringing in people who fit the roles, rather than big names, they could make the movie as is.Comment

Re: Dark Tower movie AND TV series confirmed
Might be better to just find the right actors at 10% the cost and cut the budget that way. I'm not even sure how they can justify giving Bardem a Hollywood figure while he works television for two seasons."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Dark Tower movie AND TV series confirmed
Forget star power, like Game of Thrones, the material is strong enough to be carried by a lot of actors and actresses. Get people who are hungry, and can commit to the ridiculous amount of time needed to have a project like this success.
I hope I don't offend anyone, but IMO, Clint, at any age, would never work in this hybridized genre of western/fantasy/sci-fi. I don't think he could pull off playing a character so far removed thematically from our typical day to day existence. That he has the physical characteristics of what we imagine Roland to look like is not enough from my perspective. A Icon he may be, but I don't think he was ever versatile enough as an actor to get the job done.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Dark Tower movie AND TV series confirmed
I don't find that offensive. I think Clint Eastwood is a phenomenal guy with a great understanding of dramatic timing, but I never saw him as extremely versatile.
I always felt that his Dirty Harry was the same guy in his westerns and Million Dollar Baby (as examples). Does he play the heck out of those roles? You bet he does.
I don't see Roland as the typical Old West period hero. He's got the guns, the horse, the cowboy hat, but he isn't that guy that's coming into town and shooting down people in a tavern."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Dark Tower movie AND TV series confirmed
I'll give you that. As I was writing, he was the one character I kept thinking could be Roland if done right. I held back on it because I felt he still had too much charisma or bravado.
I always saw Roland as the shy guy with a witty remark. The one you wouldn't expect could kick your behind. The Man With No Name was making you shake in your boots the second you saw him.
But I'm also getting old so my memory might be bad."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. I don't think you're far off. I'm sure my vision of him is skewed by what King said about TMwNN being the initial inspiration/influence/whatever for Roland.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Dark Tower movie AND TV series confirmed
I always kind of pictured Roland more like William Munny during most of the books (after the first book but not during the flashbacks), but I had the benefit of reading all the books after Unforgiven.Comment
