    Re: Saturday Night Live

I thought Melissa McCarthy was great last night. Even when things shouldn't have been that funny, I think her willingness to go all in on every sketch turned that around.

Last week with Alec Baldwin was funny too, but there's such a difference in "feel" between someone who has hosted sixteen times and someone who's just now getting a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream.

Arlene skit was the only funny thing this season thus far for me.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

        Re: Saturday Night Live

McCarthy was a great host (reminded me of a female Farley) but the material was horrible.

From watching the episode, it looked like McCarthy wasn't even looking at the cue cards. I don't know of too many hosts that would have been willing to have "ranch dressing" explode all over their face.

I think they dropped the ball by not having a Bridesmaids sketch.

          Re: Saturday Night Live

I don't think she was reading cue cards either. It also seemed that she ad libbed a few things. I approve of both decisions.

Lack of a Bridesmaid skit is also disappointing. I was expecting they'd attempt something.

            So yeah...

Ben Stiller last week, Anna Faris last night.

The amount of posts here pretty much tell you how funny the shows were.

Next new episode is November 5 with Charlie Day and Maroon 5.

I've stopped watching. I figure if there's a good skit, someone will mention it somewhere and I'll go find it on Hulu.

Yeah the last few shows especially last Saturday's was pitiful. It was if the sketches were written by 12 year olds. Pathetic!

I didn't think the Stiller episode was that bad, but Anna Faris was brutal.

Really looking forward to 11/5 when Charlie Day hosts.

I agree with this. Stiller wasn't bad, but I don't know that there was anything I really liked. The Fox and Friends sketch interviewing Hank Williams Jr. became funnier because that actually kinda played out in the following days, so SNL got the jump on it.

Under-Underground's Columbus Day Assblast was funny as usual, but seemed like it was missing something. Couldn't pinpoint it though.

Anna Faris episode...I liked the "Tell Him" song sketch and the J-Pop Talk Show, but that's about it. Her cue card dependence was really distracting.

                      Re: Saturday Night Live

I thought the Stiller episode was decent while the Farris episode was horrible. 4 new shows in a row tends to kill the comedy.

I've noticed Abby Elliot and Fred Armisen haven't appeared in a sketch together since they broke up.

Here are the new November episodes:

                      Nov 5th: Charlie Day/Maroon 5
                      Nov 12th: Emma Stone/Coldplay
                      Nov 19th: Jason Segel/Florence + The Machine

I hope to see Zooey Deschanel and Claire Danes host this season.

Abby and Fred broke up? That's gotta be awkward. Though I can't remember them being in many sketches together during her time on the show.

                            They married and then divorced.

Their personal stuff makes it tougher for the writers to plot out sketches since it looks like they don't want to be in the same sketch together. They're usually together when Armisen plays the fill in relationship host and takes questions from the audience.
