My battery once just lost all of its juice, meaning it would go to 100%, but eventually 100% would drain within minutes, then seconds, then you would unplug it and that's it.

A new battery certainly solved that one for me as well.

Re: Laptop Battery Not Charging Past 93%?

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I would ask here.

I'm new to laptops and this is our son's laptop.

He just received a pop-up message on his laptop that his battery voltage was low and how to order one online.

It's a Toshiba and he's had the laptop since a year ago last August.

I think it's a hoax message trying to get him to purchase a laptop battery?

      Thoughts?

      Thanks.

It is not a hoax. Your battery will start to lose its full charge and go downhill. Most laptops have a program that monitors the battery and will tell you when it is going bad. One thing you can do is to reset the battery meter and also have windows automatically define the cut off to not charge unless the battery gets below that threshold (it helps the battery last longer).

You don't have to get a new battery, but it will definitely not last as long as it did.

Could you tell me how to do this? I've got a Desktop and Laptop. The Laptop sits on the desk just for casual use and it's always plugged in, wouldn't mind know how to do this.

              There are two ways:

              1. Some laptops have a utility in the bios, go in and if there is one follow the directions.

              2. Start the computer in safe mode, unplug it from the wall and let it go until it shuts down on it's own. Take the battery out, put it back and then plug it in to charge.

It differs by battery program, but if you double click the battery, you should be able to find battery maintenance. Then there should be a battery gauge reset somewhere. The options to not charge until a certain % is usually also in that menu.

I'm glad I came back to this thread.

Our son's laptop is a Dell, not a Toshiba like I thought.

Our younger son was on it earlier tonight, and upon further review, I did notice the pop up message came from Dell.

We will take the advice given recently, thank you.

Batteries are designed to fail. My HP died after about 10 months. I try now to take the battery out when I am at home and leave it fully charged for when I need to take it on the go. There is a reason a lot of warranties only allow one battery replacement. They know it's going to die eventually.
