Good price, but it might not do the trick... Thoughts?
IIRC, didn't you say this was going into a corner? Seems like you'd need something that has a swinging arm. Mount it on one side (and store it there when not in use) and swing it to the center when in use. Like this:

Just got the new Panasonic Viera 50" TV

        http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIER.../dp/B00752VKFK

Any suggestions with this "breaking it in" stuff? I'd read great reviews on the previous series, so I hope the new one is just as good. There aren't many reviews on the TV yet.

          1) Lower the contrast (IMO somewhere between 50-55)
          2) Make sure your content covers the entire screen (stretch 4:3 material)
          3) Find and download break-in slides to a USB drive and run them at night to speed up this break-in time (optional)
          4) Don't use it as a computer monitor during this time (too many static images/icons)

Many will argue that you don't need to do any of this. Image retention is temporary (and normal with new plasmas) + burn in is almost non-existent.

With a $1K investment, doesn't hurt to play it safe, IMO.

          Enjoy.

I'll try those - thanks. We're just going to run it on the default settings which has the contrast at 50. It's amazing when turned up, but we'll wait a while until we've broken it in.

Just bought some 3D glasses and the Hubble 3D movie to give the 3D part a go. I never really thought I'd get a 3D TV, nor did I care to, but it just kind of happened, so I figure I'll take advantage of it.

I looked around for Avatar and for some reason there's just the original release in 3D that's not even made anymore and costs $100+ on Amazon. What the hell's with that?

The first couple of 3D movies, were tv exclusive to get you to buy the 3D tv. Avatar was only available on Panasonic 3D TVs, IIRC.

The Plasma and mount should be here tomorrow. I went ahead and got that mount that ollie linked here.

Saturday is the big day to get that baby put on the wall. I'll post some pics here when I'm done.

One last thing... I'm going to need a smaller entertainment center to store the PS3, 360, DVD player, cable box and my iPod docking station, along with some DVD's. I am going to try and go cheap on this, because I don't need anything fancy.

Can't wait to see what this will look like when it's done. I'll definitely post pics this weekend.

I am pretty pissed off right now.

I was at work at 7 PM when the delivery person called my phone and left a voice message, saying that he was in town and I had five minutes to call him to set up delivery. I gave some delivery instructions prior to this stating that I would be at work during from 12:30 PM to 10:30 PM. I said someone will be home, so nothing needs to be set up with delivery - just take it to the house.

I called him back when I got off work and dude sounded drunk. He said he was driving in the snow over the pass, en route back to Seattle (which is nearly four hours away from me). I told him there were shipping instructions to which he said, "Sorry man!" WTF. He then said he could deliver tomorrow and I am half tempted to call in sick so he can't eff this up again.

Ridiculous. Amazon, my first shopping experience with you is not going very well...

Call and complain. They will give you a credit of sorts!

That's weird. The shipping service went above and beyond for me. I made a few phone calls and got it delivered on a Friday instead of a Monday.

I would call and complain. The delivery guys aren't making minimum wage, they shouldn't mess up like that.

I'm wondering if it's the Plasma vs DLP or the 1080p vs 1080i, but this TV is just so much more clear and bright. It's weird - sometimes HD movies make me feel like I'm sitting in the room with people - like the motions have this strange smoothness to them. It's bizzarre.

It's the plasma v. dlp. My parents have had a DLP for over 5 years and I swapped my xbox between theirs and my plasma when I was living there and could see the difference.

My LG arrived today and man IS IT BEAUTIFUL.

I haven't hooked it up yet... I know I should do that either tomorrow or Friday to make sure it works, but I don't want to put the stand on it.

Blown away by the sheer size of it... How thin it is. I can't believe I've finally upgraded from that 32" Aquos that I've suffered through for the past couple of years. It's a good TV, but it's way past its time.

Can't wait to get this beast mounted on Saturday.

Did you make sure that the thing powered and the screen looked OK before letting the delivery driver leave? Would really suck to mount and power it up to a problem.

                                Need some advice:

Just looking for a good (relatively cheap) gaming TV within the 24-32 inch range. Will only be used for 360/PS3 and some movie watching. Any advice is appreciated (brands, LCD/LED, settings, etc).

Also, 2 HDMI ports is a must.
