Not sure about 720P since I watch all channels on 1080i
Interesting. Yeah, I've seen the wiggly lines on top, but only when it's a commercial and there are black bars on the side as well.

Do you have your cable box output only 1080i then? I checked and ESPNHD is broadcast in 720p so I allow it to be output in 720p as I figured why mess with the native resolution. Is there a specific reason why you output everything in 1080i? I've always heard sports are better in 720p (might be old logic now).

Have the settings I posted working out ok for you? Wait till you watch some Blu-ray's on this set, your jaw will drop. My next set will most likely be 58" as long as I get the garage converted into a second family room in the future.

I don't have my PS3 on game mode, been using THX and have been happy with it. Hopefully you will enjoy your set more as the time passes, the G series is no slouch. If I had the money, I'd be all over the VT as that thing looks amazing. I saw an open box VT 54" @ BBY for $1999, but no way I would spend an extra $1K for 4". Like mjb, at that point I would be looking at the Samsung C or D series in the same class as Panny is costly with the VT. I can care less for 3D and the problem is that I wear glasses so putting another pair over my regular glasses just sucks.
The setting have worked out great. Thank you. I have been in love with this T.V. I have been waking up in the middle of the night to play games while my family is sleeping. LOL

So far Blu rays look perfect. I can't imagine a better picture. I'm sure it exists but I can't believe how clear the images are even up close.

As for 3D. I think it can be jaw dropping but it isn't consistant between games. Racing and flying games are on a whole new level in 3D. IL-2 for PS3 in 2D-3D converted adds nice depth to the hills and clouds which was a nice surprise.

Motorstorm 3D has been fantastic but the killzone 3 demo is hit or miss. The 3D in Killzone 3 can be top notch but for some reason objects in the distance look hazzy and disorienting. It would be nice to have someone elses opinion. Maybe it's my tv but I was never able to fix it.

Question: Are you telling me that I could run into problems later if I dont run the slides?

Mike, I get the same thing with my Panny where I do see squiggly lines on the top and there are black bars all around. It mainly happens to me on ABC, especially when were watching the news. It annoys the hell out of me, but I figure its the signal coming in so not much else I can do. My cable box is set at 1080i I believe. I had native resolution at one point, but something was happening that was funky so I had changed, but I can't recall.

Excellent, glad you are enjoying your new set. Well, it depends on the slides. I have been reading on AVS of guys running them and then of guys not running them. I think it comes down to personal preference. If you do not run slides the first 100-200 hours, just make sure that everything runs at full screen, if your watching a letterbox movie to just zoom it out so the black bars do not retain on the screen and just be conscious with the videogames during those first crucial 100+ hours. The phosphorus run very hot during the initial life of the set and with time it doesn't run as hot. With it running so hot, there are more chances of it not being even.

I didn't run slides like I said, but I am very conscious of what I do with the set. If I play a game that has the hud on the entire time, right after I'll watch some TV that fills up the screen that takes care of the image retention. The image retention I do not see at all while normal TV viewing and only on input screens. I like to always look after I play a game because I want to make sure I have not done anything severe to the TV. I played one game not too long ago where the damn hud was on for a good 2 days because it was so bright of a hud. Not once did I see it while watching TV, playing games or even blu-rays. Were not watching the input screen, so it doesn't matter. LOL!

After my long rant, no, you will not have issues if you do not run the slides. Just do not leave static images on the screen for too long and you will be good. If I have to pause a game for a specific period, I change the input on my receiver to a black screen. By mistake I left a Blu-ray on the title screen for 30 minutes when I first bought the TV, and it left IR which I about had a heart attack. I used the scrolling bar/white wash and it cleared it right up. The scrolling bar is a nice feature, but you do not want to abuse it and only use it for severe cases of IR that doesn't go away after a few days. The scrolling bar can damage the phosphorus if used all the time. When I started this thread, I didn't know jack about plasmas and now I'm giving people advice. LOL!

The reason for the squiggly lines is due to the fact that fit screen shows the complete display of the tv with no truncation. Most channels have compress channels to fit 16:9 ratio. If you put the setting on 16:9 then you are going by the native display of the channels.

If you put fit screen or just scan, then you are displaying the full resolution but those channels that are not 1080i native will have the wiggly lines, those that are 1080i would not but for the most part the screen fit should be only for games or blu ray movies which display the full resolution.

So what is the difference between these two TVs?

my dad is working out of state for a couple months and wants a TV. I am bias to plasma, but not sure if I want to get him one because I know he wouldn't break it in or anything and I could see him leaving something on and burning it it. So we might get him an LCD instead.

I have reached out to some of my friends who have 3D tvs in plasma and LED and they all said that KZ3 3D demo is straight garbage. That 2D is great but the game in 3D is not great and has many graphical issues.

So do not put much stock on how your tv looks for this particular game

Love both models, but if you do not get a top of line Sammy then the Panny is the much better choice from what you posted.

I assume he is no gamer so go with the Panny for movie and tv watching.

The first choice is the best one

Thanks Giants. Every other game has looked great, even in 2D to 3D. Killzone 3 was supposed to new king of 3D games (according to Gamestop).... I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one.

I would call it "Walleye vision" (Hot Shots:Part Deux)

                          New question.

When watching regular blu-rays how can I get rid of the black bars. I see the zoom option works but not exactly what I'm looking for.

That really is your only option. Changing the aspect ratio or zooming.

For those that have tried the Netflix app on their TV, how well does it work? Is there any delay or buffering while streaming via wireless? On the PS3 it has worked well for me and I am deciding if I want to buy the wireless adapter or get a BD player with Netflix streaming on it since my current BD player is a few years old and don't want to use my PS3 for other than gaming.

using the ps3 for netflix is great, I would just say use your ps3. I mean its not really doing anything by running netflix.

doesn't get hot doesn't use the Blu-ray lens, save your money CZ and use the PS3.
