Re: Battle: Los Angeles
I saw it and its not terrible.
Its full of action pretty intense at some points and there was one scene that was really emotional which is where I think he might've cried
People are hating because they didnt do a long drawn out character development thing - boring
Just go expecting to see some action in a like Black Hawk Down like action
Thats it and thats all. I personally go into movies like that expecting them to try to woo me over with developing characters.... the action more than makes up for itComment

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
It is an intense movie from start to finish. I really like the approach to the whole humans vs aliens thing. Definitely kept everything as believable as possible for a sci fi movie. If you want a deep character driven movie, this probably isn't for you. If you want a solid action/sci-fi movie with good, but not developed, characters then it is a must watch.
About the end... (No real movie facts about what happened, just a general overview but still figured I would put it in spoilers in case you want no idea going to see it.)
SpoilerI was glad there was no clear cut us winning the entire war ending. Pretty much left it open to a sequel, but the fact that the end was believable in how we can overcome their superior firepower worked. Movies like this though always leave me with more questions about the aftermath of what we see. How do we stop them in places we can't find the command center? Do we use our numbers over theirs to overcome their superior firepower on the ground?NHL: Vegas Golden Knights

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Posted in the What Have You Seen thread as well, but personally I wasn't impressed with this movie at all. Yes, it has some nice intense action, but at the same time I haven't seen a more predictable movie in a long time.
The only thing that didn't happen that I expected to happen (which I'm sure a lot of people did as well) was....
Spoilerthat I expected the Staff Sargeant to die sacrificing himself.Fan of....

For those that have seen it: Was it done in a style of an action oriented war film with the familiar war movie tropes as I suspected a long time ago?Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Still really enjoyed it. A fun movie to watch for sure. I didn't expect some mind-blowing plot or deep characters. I just enjoyed it for what it was: a good action movie.Comment

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
It has all your cliche war movie characters and tropes. Young leader who doubts himself, seasoned veteran who returns to duty and has to overcome his past demons, Michelle Rogriguez plays Michelle Rodriguez, guys who are dying tell their squadmates to leave him there an let him die, while the squadmates refuse.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Is it worth spending $30.00 for to take a couple of teenagers or can it wait till video? The last flick I let them pick and pay for was clash of the titans and I was pissed off..It looks like a darker independence day. Please tell me it is better than that trash.EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

-The troubles Platoon Sergeant, He had a decorated past but his prime years are behind him.
- The Young, know it all LT
-The bada** Squad leader, you would follow him into hell
- The Cajun, Cant really understand him but he can really shoot
- The Egghead- Smart as a whip but stupid as hell on the streets
- The Goofball friends, the world is exploding around them but they are cracking jokes
- The Immigrant, Just trying to get US Citizenship at any cost
- The FNG- Every platoon in the Military has one
Those Cliches were all people I knew when I served...
I enjoyed the movie but I went in with the expectation that this was a mindless action movie. Its the same reason someone plays Call of Duty, because its fun. I honestly thought it was much better than the critics say it was, but I really did not expect rave reviews. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
I'd give it a C-C+. Saw this last week, was somewhat disappointed. Lots of shaky camera effect to simulate frenetic action. The action was okay, but I thought the dialogue was extremely pedestrian - there were many times I felt "geez I could've written better lines myself". I thought it'd be something along the lines of a darker Independence Day by way of Black Hawk Down (which it's NOWHERE near close as good).HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period
