I'm surprised True Grit got no nominations.

      "The Tourist" is a comedy/musical?

Depp nominated for the Tourist? Wahlberg for playing a real life character he looks, sounds, acts, nothing like? That's about as laughable as you can get. The Golden Globes are pretty much the MTV Movie Awards.

In that case (having never seen Black Swan) I vote for:

          HER!!

I don't understand most award shows anyway. In the beginning of 2010 I was hearing about movies like 127 Hours and The Social Network. Not to say they're bad at all (in fact they're quite very good), but when people already start saying, "It's supposed to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars," that just doesn't make sense. There shouldn't be any sort of rigged system to this, and no name should ever be tied to an automatic nomination (especially if Scorsese is for Shutter Island).

Likewise, even for my favorite movie Inception, I see no reason why DiCaprio, Levitt, or Cotillard should have any nominations headed their way. If you said Cillian Murphy, I might agree. But there is nothing that justifies such a credit. I'd prefer DiCaprio for Shutter Island based on one scene alone.

I hope Inception wins a lot though.

Emma Stone gets a nom? Wow. Now I really have to see Easy A.

Community being snubbed bothers me. Best comedy on television this year, imo.

I hear you. The surprise here is the shutout of True Grit. With a 94% Rotten Tomato score, the only dissenter's reasoning being "I knew Duke Wayne [no one who knew him called him "John"] -- and Jeff Bridges, you're no Duke Wayne." it's a shock that not even the heralded performance of the young girl get's a nom.

Of note-It made both AFI and the Critics' Choice Awards' lists of the top 10 films of the year.

                  Ditto on both.

I'm gonna be cynical and say Michael Douglas will win best actor for Wall Street 2.

It will be a ****ing travesty if Modern Family loses to Glee.

Its already a travesty considering Community is better than both and wasn't nominated for anything. Of those nominated for best comedy, I vote for 30 Rock because this season has been awesome.

I'll take 30 Rock too, though I admittedly haven't gotten around to Modern Family yet (probably getting season 1 for Christmas). But Community has put a run of episodes together to start their season that might be the strongest group of episodes I've seen out of a comedy since probably Arrested Development.

Not only would I nominate the show as a whole, but I think Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, and Alison Brie could all make decent cases for Lead Actor, Supporting Actors, and Supporting Actress, respectively.

Meryl Streep could make a cameo in a drama movie for 30 seconds and still get nominated for it. Just the way it is.

I seriously doubt they'd nominate Marty for Shutter Island, though. The Social Network certainly seems to be the frontrunner for everything.

TV nominations/wins are purely political. 30 Rock was winning everything in sight for some time, despite being a pretty average show, simply because of its connection to the "inside" world of television, and Tina Fey being heavily connected as well. If not for that, the show wouldn't have won a thing. I doubt it even be nominated. You can seriously say that show is a better comedy than It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia? Curb Your Enthusiasm? Huh?

The only reason Mad Men wins anything is because of Weiner's influence amongst TV people. It's not a knock on the show at all, as its a tremendous show and SHOULD be nominated and winning all kinds of things. It's just that nobody would even take notice if it were made by someone who doesn't know people.

Look at David Simon. He made two of the greatest shows in history, the Wire being arguably the greatest show of all time, the Emmys/Globes didn't recognize him or that show in any way. I don't believe it received one nomination for Best Drama during its entire run. Because A) he was doing material the media strays away from and B) He's not connected like others.

Excellent points. Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter complained of this just before the launch of SOA Season 3. Nice to see the nomination of his wife (Katy Sagal) for Best Actress In A TV Drama.
