    Verizon killing new-every-two program

Verizon officials have confirmed what SmartMoney was told by Verizon sales reps at a number of stores around the country: The company is ending its popular "New Every Two" program, which offers Verizon subscribers a credit of $30 to $100 toward a new phone every two years. As of Jan. 16, the company will stop offering the credit to new customers and won't re-enroll current customers in the program after their next New Every Two upgrade. The cell carrier is also putting the brakes on its permissive early upgrade policy, store representatives confirmed.

Those sons of...Man this was one of the big reasons I'm a Verizon customer to begin with. Oh well, my contract is up in 6 months, guess I'll take my texting talents elsewhere.

Of course they do this before the iPhone hits. Ridiculous. My contract is up at the end of the year but my 1 year is up in a few weeks, so I figured I could easily get the iPhone. I'm not paying $600-700 for a phone.

Like above, this was the main reason I have never left Verizon, for the perks. The bigger a company gets, the less perks you get I guess.

Shocker, now people might actually hold onto their phones for more than 2 years. I think in the end, this will lead to a lot less cell phone sales, and actually hurt Verizon more than help it's bottom line.

I'm eligible for an upgrade right now, was hoping to get an iphone for my wife but I'm not seeing it listed. I'm not really into the phone scene but I thought it was available now.

More on topic I was actually looking for a good reason to leave Verizon. This was one of the things I liked about our service, so we'll see how it shakes out.

So basically old customers have one more discounted upgrade. They are getting this in place before the iphones are available.

Well....looks like ill be looking elsewhere when my contract is up. I might go back to TMobile. Still not sure why I left that company, never had any problems w/ them.

^Not to mention, Sprint allows you to upgrade your main phone line's phone every year instead of 2. Also, I can get any phone they have at the same price as a new customer now that my 2 is up. They charge an extra 50, but they will get rid of the 50 is you ask correctly.

I am in the same boat as everyone else here. I have been with Verizon now for 9 years. I like the coverage we get in our area and always enjoyed the new every 2 deal. I have never been a big fan of Verizon`s sales and customer service. We have stayed with them because of the coverage and everyone in our family has Verizon. It looks like come fall when our contracts are up that it is time to start looking around.

So current customers will still get to use their next upgrade when it comes, but will not get anymore after that?

I wish Verizon didn't have the best coverage around here, I would definitely think about switching to Sprint this summer and getting the iPhone 5 when it came out.

This doesn't bother me that much. I have Verizon and will stay with them after they kill this program. I'm not that big into phones. My current phone is a cheap Samsung (I got it for free) that I use to txt and make phone calls. I'm eligible for the "new every 2" in April and will upgrade to the next cheapest thing I can find.

New Every 2 was a program to get an extra $30 or $50 towards an upgrade depending on your plan, you can still upgrade your phone after two years with a subsidized phone.

$30-$100? Sprint offers $150 rebate after every two years. $75 after every one.

Like some others I have been looking for a reason to check out Sprint hard. I would save a lot of money compared to the ridiculous pricing of Verizon, but I've always been wary of leaving Verizons coverage because I've had horrible experience with both tmobile and ATT. My current contract is up in October and I think I'm definitely going to be heading over to Sprint.

                              Exactly.

I can't believe that would be enough to make people switch companies.
