Those comments and looking at the cast they have (they're all actually decent-to-good actors), maybe this movie might not be terrible.

Agreed, but I still have to wait and see. I have a hard time believing directors. What else is he supposed to say? This movie will basterdize the franchise and will make fans and casual viewers alike hate it?

I'm sure he wants it to be a strong story deeply rooted in drama and character development, but he has to make that happen.

Yeah, it could definitely still try way too hard and end up sucking, but knowing that he "seemed" pissed about the picture - as pissed as all of us probably felt - is a nice sign.

Now, it's all-too-possible that they leaked the picture to see what people thought and then planned appropriate responses to build up trust and draw attention...but who knows.

That's possible. I do think the picture helped in some way.

We're getting a lot of shots now that I doubt we'd have gotten if that picture didn't go out. Vaughn said there isn't a trailer planned anytime soon, so the only benefit to releasing these new shots is to ease the fears of anyone that saw that horrible first pic.

I agree. I'm surprised there wasn't a "Before they were enemies, they were friends" finisher to that before-after beginning.

I literally have chills.....though it worries me that they seem to be going the route that Emma doesn't have her primary telepathy mutation, just the diamond form. That annoys me somewhat, but not enough to not watch January Jones play Emma and all her white outfits...

So, I'm confused. The original X-Men had Cyclops, Ice Man, Jean Grey, etc. Where are they? Is this supposed to be before Xavier formed his first class to stop Magneto (which would make sense since Magneto is on Xavier's side in this film and there's little reason to doubt that the end of the film will include Magneto rebelling against Xavier's plan for peace). Or is this an alternate reality X-Men, a reboot of not just the films,but the entire story?

I'm pretty sure it's a combination. It's an alternate type story based on the relationship between Charles/Eric before they fully became Professor X/Magneto. It's the "first class" of X-Men, as in the first group that banded together in the Mansion, not the first class that Professor X puts together - which includes Cyclops/Jean/Ice Man and them.

That's, at least, what I think I remember having read.
