Long story short, I got a 1080p 40" out of the deal so it worked out well for me. These HDTV's are really going down on prices but the ones with 3D capablity seem to be high.
You got screwed by Best Buy. If you got that extended warranty that they overcharge for then they should be giving you a credit notice for the original amount you paid for the TV. What it is worth now makes no difference. They try that to see if you will go for it and not raise a fuss.

Same thing happened to me with them and a TV I bought with an extended plan. When I bought the plan I asked them (even though it wasn't worded specifically in the plan) whether they cover the original price and the manager said yes emphatically and it didn't need to be in writing specifically. I took his name and bought the plan. 2 years later my TV needed to be replaced and of course they tried to get me to take the depreciation hit and I said I don't think so and wanted to talk to the manager who I dealt with before and who was still working there. Within minutes I was given the credit for the original price once I explained how I was apparently lied (in a raised voice which always helps) to when I bought the plan.

You can get a too big tv for a room. My friend has a 60"in a medium sized room and it looks silly.

63" 3D Samsung Plasma. I sit about 14-15ft away from the TV in a 25ft room (PS3). I always thought the room was 19ft until I measured it the other day. 19ft was the default size when we built, but we added a 6ft extension during the build.

46" Samsung DLP in a spare bedroom upstairs (Xbox 360). It's a game room for the most part.

Got an old 2002 Panasonic 32 inch with an HD display that cuts a little off the top and bottom of the screen.

60 inch Mitsubishi DLP. I went for size rather than quality, and its been a great purchase.

                          Ditto.

                          Also have 42" plasma.

And was given a new Hitachi 720p 3LCD projector (taking a computer software class for teachers), so potentially a 100" screen sometime in the near future.

Prices on HDTVs has dropped like crazy. Just 2 years ago $500 would get you a 32" 720p set. Now that same $500 gets you a 42" , 46" or 50" display.

It depends what you're going for really.
Do you plan on using 1080p? If so it's best to get over 40".
If you're only going for 720p then either would be fine but obviously the 37" would be better if they're the same model.

                              50" Plasma, pretty solid.
