Yep, if you were to go get a new smart phone from AT&T today, there is no unlimited data plan. It's $25 for 2GB's a month.

That is how it worked with Cingular and the other buyouts from previous carriers. They will try to get you off that plan, but unless you change it, they usually have to keep you on it.

I even changed my plan to a cheaper one, around Oct '10 that had messaging included and also had unlimited data. I thought that if I changed I would lose the unlimited, but I guess if you were already a customer, you still get it no matter what.

Users grandfathered in will be able to keep their current plans. Similar to when AT&T and Cingular did whatever they did. My mom still has her rate plan from when it was Cingular.

It's only when you get a new phone. I've been a customer since 2002 when it was Cingular and I didn't get unlimited even thought I already had it due to getting a smart phone.

It should make the network better, but it probably won't.

It's probably just going to lead AT&T to dick us around more, charge more for less and give us very little choice.

T-Mobile wasn't much competition GSM wise but they were still competition and with them off the market we already have less choice.

Dont be surprised to see Verizon buy Sprint and have us all in a cluster funk.

As far as new and better phones, yes. With the announcement today of a phone already on T-Mobile going to AT&T (HD7) and the LG Optimus 3D (AT&T named it the Thrill 4G) going to AT&T when everyone thought it was going to T-Mobile is a good sign.

Never happen. Sprint is actually growing and they are now rated #1 in customer service. They have nowhere to go but up, and I just don't see them selling. I wouldn't be surprised to see Verizon and Sprint team up however. Share their towers and the like. Though, that would really benefit Verizon more than Sprint, as Sprint has the best 4g network out atm.

Yeah saw that the HD7 is coming today. Pretty sweet, I am thinking about getting a Win7 phone and the Samsung Focus was the obvious choice for me, but now I'll have to look at the HD7.

Make sure you test it out first. I got a Focus earlier this month and I returned it within a week. WP7 just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And if you do like WP7, I think the HD7 is better unless you don't like big screens. It has the HTC Hub and the HTC Youtube app (which is the only one currently available), it has the kickstand, and HTC is a better phone manufacturer than Samsung, IMO. The Focus is almost all plastic, and you can definitely tell when you hold it.

It was mainly Windows Phone 7. I didn't like the MetroUI that much, and the apps were lacking. There was very few customization options on it other than moving around tiles. As far as the Focus, I didn't like the plasticky feel to it, and while the AMOLED looks really nice, it has a lot of burn in problems.
