    Re: Vinyl Collectors?

The thrift store i find them in sells them for 68 cents an album which is great. If they priced them individually they'd probably exceed what I'd be willing to pay for them at a thrift store. I was more excited to find the Dire Straits album than anything else since Mark Knopfler might be my favorite musician and it is an incredible album (although not the one I really want to find which would be Making Movies).

They also had several Eagles albums but I saw someone else leaving with them, thankfully he left the rest for me. I was sad to leave behind a copy of The Police's Zenyatta Mondatta because it didn't have a sleeve and had some scratches that were just too apparent and deep and also tatters of a Genesis Abacab sleeve without finding the album anywhere. I really can't wait to go back this weekend and see if they put out anymore from this collection.

The only issue is that I can never find decent vintage stereo equipment at the thrift stores and what I do find is always way overpriced. I found a stereo for $60 without speakers or anything that wasn't even particularly good and thats just too much to risk at a thrift store that doesn't accept returns.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

I'm not a LP collector. I have a few various 80's vinyls. Today however, I was at the local flea market and found an original pressing Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon, in very good condition, both posters and sticker included.

Not sure what it's worth, but it's definitely one of the albums that truly sounds best on vinyl.

I picked up Heart's Dreamboat Annie along with some Eagles LPs (On the Border, One of These Nights and Greatest Hits 76). Heart is probably one of the underrated and under-appreciated rock bands of the 70s. Sing Child is an amazing track, not to mention the singles from that album.

Al Green - Let's Stay Together. If that's one of the $10 LPs, I'm picking this up.

I might have to snag that, too. I'm not sure if I can wait long enough to luck into finding an original Let's Stay Together or I'm Still in Love With You.

Anyway, a little bit of show and tell here:

Also, I found an awesome shop to go to. It's a booth in an antique outlet, but I think they handle their records better than the local music shop. They're all alphabetized with bins just for Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Elvis, etc and are guaranteed to play. My haul from visit was:

The Rolling Stones: Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers (awesome cover)
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV
B.B. King: Completely Well, Live at the Regal
The Doors: LA Woman, The Doors
The Stray Cats: Built For Speed
Luther Allison: Bad News Is Coming

Even though I found my favorite live album, Led Zeppelin, and Doors I think my catch I was happiest to find was Stray Cats. The Rolling Stones' albums have definitely made me a lot bigger fan. It's like they could have easily have passed themselves off as an American band the way they blended together country and blues and rock. Let It Bleed is a pretty awesome listen.

                  Re: Vinyl Collectors?

I just started collecting last year, nothing big or anything, just if we hit up a thrift shop or something and I see one that I like, I get it.

So far I only have two and they are more for show than anything. I am using the covers as replacements covers for the wooden box drawers that go into this Ikea bookcase:

then I have these drawer inserts (red though):

and what I have done is replace the front of the drawer with the vinyl cover art. Will put some pics up of it eventually (lazy)... and too busy listening to music.

                  and this one:

Are you located in the blue ridge mountains in Georgia? Place you described sounds EXACTLY like where I shop out in Marietta haha.

I have put them onto my PC and do occasionally listen to the music, not with the vinyls though. I have been trying to figure out what to do with the vinyls, put them up somewhere or something... not sure quite yet.

Just to clarify, I just use the covers of the vinyl (not the actual vinyl) to make the new cover of the drawer.

Basically I cut them out with an exact-o knife and have them glued onto the wood drawer front.

                                Bump.

I'm hoping I can make it back to Strasburg either this Saturday or next Saturday depending on how the weather is this weekend and how I feel after hiking. I still need to go venture through downtown Charlottesville, too.

                                Anyway, some random thoughts:

Jack White's Blunderbuss is probably one of the better packaged vinyls I have. The record itself is nice and thick, there's a nice lyric booklet (not just a lyric sheet, an actual booklet, I was surprised), but what I liked most was the vinyl sleeve. Its a smooth plastic inside with black paper on the outside and it is smooth as silk sliding the record out. Jack White definitely loves vinyl and its nice to be able to tell.

Not to mention on the Dead Weather's last album there are two bonus tracks. If you look closely at the sticker in the center, there is actually a song there on each side. Pretty cool.

I listened to The Wall in full last night. My speakers surprised me last night. For how small they are, they really push out the sound and the bass response is really great. There were times when I could literally feel the music vibrating out. Love it.
