I have always gravitated towards anything from the Wu-Tang Clan. And his style resonates with me the most of all.

I made that face when I realized that Biggie had more votes than Nas.

He was not...G Rap's first releases (I'm Fly and Rhyme Time) were just like everything else at the time. No complex flows or cadences. Once It's A Demo and more importantly Poison and Road To The Riches dropped (well after Eric B For Pres/My Melody by the way) that's when G Rap started to up his vocab/skills. I know they were tight back in the day so I'm sure Ra influenced him.

Hip Hop needs to be broken down to Before Rakim and After Rakim.....no one was rhyming multi-syllabic words, no one was was rhyming words in the middle of a line and no one was talking about the 5% before him.

As a casual rap fan, I have always thought 2Pac was the best. His music is not just about guns, sluts, and getting money, he actually told stories. I also hold Eminem in very high reguard. If I were to list MY favorite i figure it would be this:

                1. 2Pac
                2. Eminem
                3. Dre
                4. Jay Z
                5. puff daddy

Re: The Greatest Rapper of All Time

Overall I say Tupac. He had lyrics, flow, the VOICE, delivery, everything. But his influence is heads and shoulders above anybody else. He was a mainstream rapper, got radio play and still does, but he wasn't making commercial music. Pop stations still play California Love today and Tupac didn't have to change his style to make songs like that. Nobody else can say that.

                    But...

Rakim has the best flow ever. In terms of constructing raps, multisyllabic patterns, etc. Nobody touched Rakim. He influenced just about every MC that came after him. Although it's worth noting Kool G Rap did the same thing a year before Rakim, Ra' took it above and beyond.

Nas might be the best storyteller. Ice Cube is also up there because he was a pioneer and still one of the most vivid writers rap has ever seen.

Biggie had a rediculous flow and great battle rhymes. Same with Eminem.

There's a lot of different ways to classify best rapper. But Tupac is the only rapper to ever reach the masses in both a personal level and on a music level. You have people who don't like rap listen to his music. And Tupac can inspire the listener like nobody can and ever will. His personality, his mentality, is that of somebody who was a just a fighter and that resonates so much with the people who listen to him. I could go on and on. His style was very poetic and simple, but that's what made it so vivid. He's got every type of song and is the realest person ever. Nothing fake about him or his music. influence on the hip hop community is on the same level of MLK in the 60's. He was a social activist first, rapper 2nd. The most influential person in music since 1990. Tupac is the man.

EDIT: How can somebody put Dre? He barely raps. And when he does, he's got Eminem and Royce da 5'9 doing it for him. If you don't spit your own lyrics, you are a not a rapper.

I am more into Rock and Metal... but I have to admit... I love me some B.I.G. P. Oh PP.A! Grew up with it, and he just flowed so well no matter what style he used.

And Ice Cube gets a nod because he just spits with vindication and purpose. Such weight and to the point aggression.

What makes him a hypocrite? You mean how he talked about loving women and women rights and got put in jail on a rape charge? The same rape charge that had no evidence he raped anybody? The 'victim' was the girl he had been with plenty of times before? The 'victims' story not making any sense?

This girl said Pac and his boys FORCED her into the bedroom and the raped her. Do you what happened earlier that day? She was giving him head on a dance floor in a club.

Tupac didn't rape anybody, he didn't need to. The girl was with him plenty of times before including right before 'the rape.'

Pac was just a scapegoat. An influential black man who spoke out agaisnt the injustice and greed of the American Government. Plenty of powerful people wanted him in away and out of the picture.

The girl said multiple people raped her. The only person ever targeted was Pac. They never looked for the other men, they just wanted Pac because of his influence. He did more by age 25 than Malcom X or MLK.

He said it best himself after he got out: "The women said there was plenty of guys there. Where are they? Who's looking for them? Why am I the only one here?"

He was set up and all the evidence suggests it. He was not a hypocrite.

2Pac was my choice. The way that brother flowed always left me in awe. I still rock the "All Eyez on Me" cd. Nothing like grabbing a brew and listening to a little California Love in the Man Cave!!!

The Makeveli cd "Toss it Up" is also a favorite of mine.

Not a rap fan here, but I'm glad to see that the people in here are intelligent and actually discussing talented musicians. Unlike many silly people I know convinced that Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, and Soulja Boy are talented.

I don't think I've heard enough of the good stuff to have an answer though.
