The Greatest Rapper of All Time

I've been listening to alot of the great rappers on Pandora alot lately and me and some buddies have gone back and forth on who the greatest is. Some say there is no greatest and others say it depends on where you are from. I just wanted to get some opinions in here.

In order to properly answer this question, you have to define "greatest". What makes someone the greatest rapper of all-time? What superior qualities does he possess over others, and how does one illustrate that this rapper is unmatched in these qualities?

If people can agree on an answer to that then the discussion can really begin.

Personally, I'm admittedly not overly in-tune with hip-hop and rap so my opinion might mean zero, but I've always thoroughly enjoyed Eminem's work, so I voted for him.

From my not-so-expert opinion....Biggie and Em.

For ME, it's Pac and that's all I'ma try to say about that.

Edit: Well, that and I think it would have been better without a poll, unless the original question was "Who's the greatest on this list?"
            PS: You guys are great.

Lupe. Of those available, Nas. I haven't voted yet, but it'll either be "Nas" or "Other"

Re: The Greatest Rapper of All Time

I don't listen to much rap, but looking in my iTunes library I do have about 100 rap albums in there, mostly stuff from the 90s and basically nothing from the last five years or so.

I would have to say that I enjoy 2Pac's complete body of work more than any other on that list. He has a very listenable voice and his rhythm and technique just feels so natural that I can listen to him all day long.

I also want to give an honorable mention to Scarface as being the most underrated guy on that list. I absolutely loved his work with the Geto Boys and also his solo stuff, especially The Diary.

I think if Big L was alive for another 5-7 years he'd be the best ever.

Right now I'm up in the air between Pac/Biggie/Nas.

The first time you go through Illmatic and listen closely to the lyrics is just an experience you cannot compare to any other rappers IMO. And I love BIGGIE.

...The stoogie aint bad either with it lol

I went with eminem, my top 3 are Biggie, Pac, and Eminem. I really like the other 2 guys but I basically have every single Eminem song on my itunes, I really enjoy the flow he usually has, and I always loved the fact that the most of the stuff he rapped about was meaningful not some bs line over and over, etc.

                            This right here.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Anyways, for me it's Pac. I've just always gravitated to his stuff and it's hard for me to find a Pac song I don't like. Plus when you add in his impact on the game, that adds a lot to his case as well.

But to be honest I'm not a fan of this G.O.A.T. talk when it comes to music. It's all pretty much subjective.
