I like Nas too obviously (peep the name) but Nas's style was birthed by what Rakim was doing years prior. To me thats what makes someone the greatest. How their style changed the way others rhymed after them. NOBODY had the slick wordplay that Rakim was doing or rapped about. Rakim and KRS both held the torch and are responsible for the many styles that came out of hip hop in the early 90's and beyond. My Top 3:

    Rakim
    KRS
    Nas

    Honorable mention:
    Big L
    GZA

Surprised Kool G Rap didn't make the list while Snoop and Big Daddy Kane did.

I voted for Biggie simply because I like his work the best so he is the greatest to me.

I would of voted Jay-Z but I'm not a fan of any of his work after The Black Album. Now that might not be fair because in the 90's/early 2000's Jay-Z was great and I think if 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. were still alive today and still rapping their rap quality would decline similar to Jay-Z.

Ding, Ding, Ding!!! You got it sir! Kool G rap without a doubt is the best rapper of all time to me. Why? Because he could rap about anything and make it sound spectacular. He had great story telling ability (Ill street Blues, also check Rikers Island and I'm Fly), he had great delivery. I would put him up against any rapper of any period.

After that, I would take, in no particular order, Melle Mel, Rakim, LL (staying power for years!), Kool Moe Dee (first rap scientist) M&M (no one strings words together like this kid!), Jay-Z, and Run (simply brilliant mic control and wit).

Also, Andre 3000 should be a choice. He is unquestionably better that like 6 or 7 rappers on that list. (Snoop? What?)

I dont know who the best all time is, but Eminem puzzles me with the crazy love he gets. I liked his old stuff only. His last two tries were bombs imo.

Paid in Full dropped about 2 years before Road to Riches I'm just not sure when It's A Demo actually dropped though as that might have predated Rakim. Though you can argue G. Rap was the main influence on "gangsta" rap that came afterward.

He doesn't oversaturate with his talent. Hes on a different level, I wouldnt call him just a rapper.

Yeah Im gonna go with Biggie for all time. He was on some next ish.

As much as I like Big, the material he has out there as far as quanity at least to me keeps him out of the GOAT talk. 2 releases and a bunch of partial radio or studio bars. Pac i like him alot of good quality songs out there. But I feel he benefited even more because he died. I would like to say Jay, but BP3 was butt, which was very disappointing considering how well I thought American Gangster was. So I can't say him either. Nas very good MC, but has a couple of butt cds out over long period of time, that kinda takes away from how good he was the same for Eminem.

For me then its a tie for Kool G Rap and Rakim. Both great MC different styles, but quality was better, because the saturation of music wasn't as great leaving for better writing IMHO.
