Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....

    I've always felt the opposite.

I loved growing up in the 90's (Born in '89), but my taste in cars and music leads me to believe I should have grown up in the 70's and 80's. I'm so much like my dad that I don't even realize it sometimes. Yeah, I listen to metal and a bunch of new-age stuff, but If I had to choose, I would take some Journey, Foreigner, AC/DC, Van Halen, etc. all day.

As far as the technology goes.. I played outside as a kid. My parents let me play video games (they had a NES themselves), but I wasn't allowed to until dark. If I was sitting in and watching TV, my Mom would look at me and say, "What the hell are you doing in the house ? It's nice outside.. go play". The thing is, that rarely happened. I stayed outside and out in the shop with my dad a lot. That's where I've learned everything I know about cars and how to work on some. He's the best mechanic I know. I remember riding a home-made go-kart my dad made, playing backyard football, and even something as simple as going and finding a damn stick in the woods and putting tape on it... kids these days just don't get it.

I grew up (am still am) in Toronto. And I'm 43 so I'm a real old fogey although most people I know say I still act like a kid but my kids' friends love that that when I'm at parties at people's houses I go to the basement and play video games with the kiddies instead of talking with the adults all nite because all they seem to do is bitch and moan.

I remember when I was maybe 8 or 9 and if I was bored then I would hop on my bike and ride for miles thru parks with a only a water bottle attached to my bike. I'd be gone for hours. I had an active imagination and would pretend I was a cowboy and the bike was my horse and the park was like the old west and i was travelling thru and it was fun because we were forced to use our imagination.

I road my bike everywhere. I had a BMX MONGOOSE! went to other towns and went to other girls houses in different towns. . Had a blast growing up. I used to play video games, but my desire has been dying down. I will be 40 in OCT. So I don't feel old even though I am getting up there in age.

People born in the early 90's really missed out on the NES, SNES and Sega Genesis. I still have all 3 and they work perfectly.

Yeah I mean, there wasn't a big natural disaster anytime recently that knocked all the power out to places and destroyed whole towns. It's 2011, we have learned to control the weather.

I'm pretty sure he meant his PARTICULAR area...not "anywhere" in the U.S.
              Something HE personally witnessed.

I was born in 1990, so I feel like I never got to truly appreciate the brilliance of Michael Jordan. So I wish in my current state, I could go back and watch the 90s NBA and fully appreciate Jordan and big men with back to the basket games.

I don't see that from what he wrote but I hope it's either that or he has been living away from any other person and hasn't been able to see any news not pertaining to video games or sports since 1989.

                    My Grandmother is 101...

                    Yes, 101...

I asked her about the fact that when she was young, there was very little electricity, indoor plumbing, basically ALL of the very basic things we take for granted...

No TV, certainly no computers, etc...

                    Her response:

"Well, it all happened pretty gradually and logically, so you don't really dwell on it"

                    (She's super cool)

However, once she did complain that:

"Nowadays, you can sit on a toilet and work a phone like it's a computer, but they can't do anything about my arthritis?"

It might have to do with everybody nows have more technology. If you lose your power you lose a lot more things. In 89 there was not that much to lose as in technology, because it wasn't out yet?

Oh yeah I didn't have much time in the 80's since I was born in 88 but I do remember the year technology was invented. It was pretty cool.

You are funny. I am talking about people missing their laptop, cell phones, and other technology we didn't have back then, so you can't miss those things.

I am the opposite as well. I kind of wish I was born in the 1700's in Europe as long as I wasn't extremely poor.
