Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....
Well then explain what you're saying because in this context it looks like yet another "this generation sucks" kind of post. People have been without power at various times for long periods of time after 1989 and the world hasn't gone crazy.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....
During that time people thought the world was going to end because they didn't have electricity. Partly because we were spoiled being rich kids getting everything that we wanted.
I can't imagine how the same social strata would react today, given that our society can't seem to function without their ipads, cellphones, ipods, and lack of PSN.Comment

My Grandmother is 101...
Yes, 101...
I asked her about the fact that when she was young, there was very little electricity, indoor plumbing, basically ALL of the very basic things we take for granted...
No TV, certainly no computers, etc...
Her response:
"Well, it all happened pretty gradually and logically, so you don't really dwell on it"
(She's super cool)
However, once she did complain that:
"Nowadays, you can sit on a toilet and work a phone like it's a computer, but they can't do anything about my arthritis?"
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....
I remember when there was no cable, no computers, tv actually went OFF, neighbors actually knew each other, tv was black and white, no cell phones, no credit cards, no ATMs, no walmarts, no bojangles, no Harris teeters, no video on demand, no school police, ect things were a lot different from then up to the late 80's when these things took off and brought with it even more.
Manufactured street drugs, higher crime, etc and now you are always, always being monitored through these new technological outlets. My times have definately changed.
Now when do I get my flying car, Hoover board and personal flight pack! What world do you live in?Comment

I'm 43 and can vividly recall when the FIRST tv video game came out------tennis, with two vertical dashes that went up and down via a controller and a square ball......lol. We thought that was the ish!
I can also recall alot of other stuff----like tv's with dials (no remote), popcorn that you actually made on a stovetop (not microwave), etc.
But I also suffered thru the Disco era-----the music and the clothes. Oh my gawd, the clothes!!!! Lol.......Comment

I don't know about not getting to appreciate the NES and Genesis...
I was born in '89 and my parents had an NES when I was born. I played that bad boy for YEARS.
My little cousins are all about the 360 and stuff and I don't blame them, I just wish they could see what's so special about today's technology. The games back in the late 80's and 90's were so much fun.Comment

Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....
I played games when I was still a teenager, but I also got out a bunch. If I skipped school, I wasn't doing it to play a game. The only exception was when Halo 3 and new NCAA games came out. I'd usually stay up really late on a Tuesday and never go to school Wednesday.. hahaComment

Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....
I grew up in the 80s and while it generated some fond memories I don't think the youth today are missing too much. You have much more of the world at your fingertips. Ya'll know much more about how the world really is compared to us growing up back then and all the access to information will help you out more in the long run.

Thanks, yes she does...
Not a ton of "book smarts", but an overabundance of all the other "smarts"...
Very impressive individual to all who have encountered her...Comment

Re: Sometimes I feel like I was born too early.....
Everyone talks about all the neat tech toys we have now but the 1st digital (not the 1st analog ones that were the size of flower pots) cell phone I ever got back in the early 90's was rock solid and the reception was amazing. I could get a great signal almost everywhere and I don't know many times I dropped it (let's say alot) and never a crack.
It was a pretty small size, albeit heavier, and pretty basic but I have never had a phone with better reception. One time I went fishing and dropped it in the lake but the water was clear and only about 6 feet deep so we were able to fish it out after about 20 minutes. We all thought it was fried but once it dried up it was as good as new. I remember getting rid of it because I thought the newer thinner phones with a million options would be better but for a good few years I regretted it. Heck I would take it now since the ones now seem to crack if you look at it funny and half the time the reception sucks.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 05-14-2011, 02:47 PM.Comment
