No filler episodes, no making the characters insanely stupid to extend plots longer then they should be, just on point all the way. If people like it, and they have some more ideas about those characters, then they tell some more stories about them.

It's what makes shows like Luther, Sherlock, and Torchwood so good.
The only aspect of American television that closely resembles this is cable (especially paid cable like HBO, Showtime).

Unfortunately, even then they still get caught up on dollars and let shows go on too long.

It's too bad network television can't do the same. The idea of 20-24 episode seasons is a drawn out concept to me. More networks should be adopting half season concepts and pushing quality television all year by forcing stories to get to the point fast.

What a gripping 4th episode with the wife breaking down and then the events that follow.

Yes, I love this show now.

            Watched Season 2 Episode 1.

When are those two just gonna get it on?

Luther completely shut out at the Emmys.

Like I said...if this was an American-made mini-series..it would be a totally different outcome.

Re: Luther ( Tv Series BBC)

I think it being a mini-series is what hurts it in the States.

If it were a 10 episode show, I think it would perform better.

It actually made me start wondering if there's an Emmy's in England or Europe. With their set-up of short series, they severely hurt their chances of winning major awards.

                  I checked and found nothing.

In another note, I absolutely love the theme song. I listen to it all the time now.

Most countries have their own versions of the Oscars, Emmys, and Grammys. (Hell, even Canada does.) The British equivalent is the BAFTAs.

                    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/f...dominates.html

As far as Luther goes, I don't think it's been critically acclaimed in the UK itself, certainly not to the degree of Sherlock or Downton Abbey. Idris Elba did win a Golden Globe, however.

Among the oddities in this year's "UK Emmys":

                    1. The winner for Best Actor in a Drama isn't Stringer, but... McNulty!
                    2. Maggie Smith won for Downton Abbey (Best Supporting Actress) in the US, but not in Britain!

I discovered last night that Comcast has all the episodes on Demand so I guess I'll be going through these again before continuing with the rest of The Wire.

Forgive me. I purposely avoided reading long paragraphs about the show before watching so I didn't see that you actually also mentioned the framing of the shots.

I watched the pilot episode again this weekend. Pretty sure that's one of the best pilot episodes I've seen it.
