Ya, there was a thread about it, but I remember when I saw some of the prelim. stuff I wasn't impressed. I don't think the lead actress is brings a strong enough character to the role. And before any of you get on some bent that I'm being misogynistic, I loved Sigourney Weaver as the lead in Alien.

Looks alright. I'll keep an eye on it.

As an aside, why is EVERY trailer for a horror movie the same? I've seen the whole "dragged under the house screaming bit" in more than one, and almost every single one ends with one of the characters sneaking around, only to get grabbed and dragged off screaming.

      Just something that bugs me.

Is there an original idea in Hollywood anymore?

I love the original so I'll have to see this one in theaters.... hopefully it doesn't suck.

          Re: "The Thing" Remake

Is this a full remake or a prequel? At one point it was supposed to be a prequel.

EDIT: It's a prequel......can a mod please fix the title?

Inside you'll find the first trailer for Universal Pictures' The Thing (set visit part 1, part 2) prequel starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Dennis Storhøi.

"Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish."

It doesn't look like a prequel ......It looks like the same setup as the first remake(BOTH actually....but I guess even more like the first remake with Kurt Russell than the original)

I dont have high expectations for this. Less due to the fondness I have for the John Carpenter version. It will be very hard to come close to that film.

                Re: "The Thing" Remake

Good poster, dunno about the trailer. Looks too... modern, gives away too much, and contains a bunch of cheap jump scares. The 1982 Thing was all about dread and paranoia, with only two or three (outstanding) jump scares. This just looks like a shot-for-shot remake of Carpenter's film, with a younger, more attractive cast and a few Norwegian flags scattered about to remind everyone it's a prequel.

The initial setup doesn't make much sense, either. An Antarctic research station run by the Norwegian government finds a UFO and sits around for days (weeks?) while bringing in an American scientist (who's a young hottie, natch, like most scientists), but the American research station just a few miles away is kept completely uninformed? Why not just keep everyone Norwegian and have them switch from subtitles to English after a few lines?

I was just confused how they talked about there being a prequel and then I saw this, it looks like a straight up remake of Carpenter's version. I'll still watch it, it looks decent enough from the trailers.

Agreed. Loved the John Carpenter/Kurt Russell one... will keep an eye on this, but if it is a prequel, I wonder how they will tie the story in, because it premise is identical.

After seeing the trailer only I thought it was a remake until I read the thread...kinda disappointed now...

Iirc weren't the norwegians the ones who originally found the ship and the thing?
