I got more motivated because of the nice shaves I hear people talk about. Of course, that would be only for my head because my face and hair are not made for that close of a shave. Electric is nice but cleaning is a butt pain.

Started shaving this way last year and have never looked back. It's a joy on the skin, and especially in the pocket book. Using a Merkur 34c with strictly Astra and/or Feather blades, Kent pure badger brush, with Proraso cream and after shave balm. Best shaves ever, (wife will agree). Also, i have never had ingrown hairs since.

If you're starting out, one might try sticking to a sampler razor pack and/or a forgiving blade like Derby. When you step up to a Feather or Astra blade, be careful not to place too much pressure when shaving, especially with the Feather. Also, don't forget to buy a styptic pencil to put a stop to any bleeding nicks.
