That was the 3rd season... but the producer at the end of the show said there would be a fourth and it would be bigger and better. Can't wait!

Gods of the Arena wasn't considered the second season since it was a prequel, and only 6 episodes. So this was the "second" season.

I agree, this show is fantastic and just keeps getting better. I really wonder where they go from here.

Yeah, I have no idea. It will definitely be interesting to see what they do now that certain people are gone.

Forgive me if I am late to the party, just seen the last episode of this season recently. I was TDY earlier in the year (military) and could not watch.

Now I don't mean to bring race into this and I understand that this is fiction. However I assumed by now that the general theory from historians is that the Egyptians of that period were black. Now I would not have even brought this up had they white washed the Carthaginians (Barca and his clan in the first season were casted as black, Carthage was in North Africa) yet here again they went with the general white washing of history by going back to white Egyptians.

Now granted this may not mean anything to many people considering this is fiction. But it gets tired and old that even with historical evidence they go right back to the same casting they've done for years.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Where are you seeing that the Egyptians from that era were black? Egypt, like the Roman Empire, was a fairly diverse empire. It had people from Saharan Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Near East, and some of European descent. It's generally thought that Egyptians would've exhibited a variety of skin color and racial identities.

Yes over time like most big city cultures they did diversify particularly later on to its ultimate demise. However from beginning to much of the time represented in Vengeance it was a Black majority empire. There are several books, historians and artwork that have concluded this. Yet it is always shown as nothing like that.

Its like saying the now called region of South Africa was always diverse. It was not. With colonial rule and migration from other countries it became diverse. Egypt even with the influx of influences and ethnicities from other areas it was still at that time a predominantly black group.

Now granted its just fiction and nothing more its not a big deal but it would have been nice for ONCE if they broke the mold.

Let's not pretend this isn't a debated issue largely tangled into modern race issues, that is probably best not debated here.

I will say that, at the time of Spartacus, Egypt had been ruled by Greeks for a couple hundred years and were ruled by Persians for several hundred before that. Even if the old kingdom Egyptians were "black", by that time a person of even 100% European white blood could have very well been considered an Egyptian in the eyes of the Romans.

                            Re: Spartacus: Vengeance

In the era of "Dynastic" Egypt (which, if I'm not mistaken, was well before the times of Spartacus), Egypt was already becoming a racially diverse culture. While there were "black" Egyptians (some believe Tutankhamen was black, while other believe he was much lighter skinned), there were lighter, olive, and even some almost white Egyptians. The era this show takes place in isn't really "ancient." We're talking less than a century before Christ, and during the reign of Julius Caesar. In fact, the Egyptian ruler of the time was Macedonian in decent, and would have, as such, likely olive skin.
